Here is a poem by Matthew Fitt that pretty much sums up how most of us are feeling at the moment. You’ve probably already realised that it’s written in the Scots language. Can you work out what the following words mean: mawkit, eicht, fower ?
I want oot. It isnae fair.
Stey in the hoose? I dinnae care.
Ma hame’s oot there
In the fields, in the park
Trailin back mawkit lang efter dark,
No stuck here forever daein stupit hame wark.
I’m eicht, ma sister’s fower.
We’ve nae fun, nae joy, nae richts, nae power.
When, can somebody tell me, when will aw this be ower?
