Primary Five Update – 12/3

As part of World Book Day P5 made Vlog (video blogs) book reviews. We uploaded them to Espresso (a topical schools website) and we were delighted today when one of our pupils was featured in their news bulletin. Well done to all the children who took part, the standard was high! Especially well done to Hannah for her starring clip!

On Thursday 19th February Blackridge were very lucky to have Helen from Teaching Drums visit to explain a little bit more about Fairtrade and to make various African arts and crafts. Each class had the opportunity to make items such as wall hangings, African drums and Batik effect pictures. This has kick-started Fairtrade Fortnight which begins on Monday 23rd February and runs in school until Friday 6th March. All pupils will be learning more about Fairtrade over the coming weeks, what we can do to help farmers and producers in other countries and help work towards making Blackridge Primary School a Fairtrade school. We are well on our way in this journey!

There will be a coffee afternoon in school for all parents/carers on Tuesday 3rd March assisted by ASDA Armadale where we will have Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits available for a small donation. More information to follow.

On Friday 6th March we will end our Fairtrade Fortnight with an assesmbly from LUSH Livingston who will provide a variety of products to sell to pupils. Details have already been put in today’s newsletter.

Fairtrade Pots -Primary 7

February 2015 P7 048February 2015 P7 060

As an introduction to Fairtrade Fortnight Primary 7 created some very attractive Fairtrade Pots which depicted what Fair Trade is all about.

The class learned about the whole concept behind Fairtrade and now have an understanding of what the Fairtrade Logo stands for and can explain why some Fairtrade foods cost a little extra to buy.

Primary 7 also completed a school survey to find out the most popular Fairtrade snack items and have purchased these to sell at intervals. They will be available from 23rd February for the whole of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Primary 7 teach Primary One French. Tres Bien!

Primary 7 recently created French books which they shared with their Primary One ‘wee buddies’.

The younger children responded very well and some of them were able to remember the new words they encountered.

One clever cookie in Primary One managed to write out all of the colour words in French. Magnifique!

Great concentration!
