The Bard at Blackridge!

The whole school participated in a brilliant Burn’s Assembly on 22nd January, to celebrate the work of Rabbie Burns and all things Scottish.

We are especially thankful to our piper who entertained us with some rousing Scottish tunes!

Walk your wigs off!

As mentioned in the recent newsletter, next week is Walk to School Week and on Friday 2nd October we will be ‘Walking our wigs off’. The whole school will take a short walk through the community at 9:30am in aid of Team Jak and the GOLD 16 campaign so please encourage your child to wear a wig and bring in £1 to support this very worthy charity. The Nursery will be walking Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm and Friday morning at 9:30am. All children should also come to school with sensible shoes and jacket in case of inclement weather. Please feel free to come out and watch the pupils walking their wigs off!

Primary Five Update – 12/3

As part of World Book Day P5 made Vlog (video blogs) book reviews. We uploaded them to Espresso (a topical schools website) and we were delighted today when one of our pupils was featured in their news bulletin. Well done to all the children who took part, the standard was high! Especially well done to Hannah for her starring clip!

Fairtrade African Arts and Crafts

On Thursday 19th February Blackridge were very lucky to have Helen from Teaching Drums visit to explain a little bit more about Fairtrade and to make various African arts and crafts. Each class had the opportunity to make items such as wall hangings, African drums and Batik effect pictures. This has kick-started Fairtrade Fortnight which begins on Monday 23rd February and runs in school until Friday 6th March. All pupils will be learning more about Fairtrade over the coming weeks, what we can do to help farmers and producers in other countries and help work towards making Blackridge Primary School a Fairtrade school. We are well on our way in this journey!

There will be a coffee afternoon in school for all parents/carers on Tuesday 3rd March assisted by ASDA Armadale where we will have Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits available for a small donation. More information to follow.

On Friday 6th March we will end our Fairtrade Fortnight with an assesmbly from LUSH Livingston who will provide a variety of products to sell to pupils. Details have already been put in today’s newsletter.

Breakfast Week at Blackridge Primary School

January 25th – 31st is National Breakfast Week and Blackridge Primary School are learning about the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. There will be a tasting session on Thursday 29th and on this day all pupils will be encouraged to sample a variety of breakfast foods such as croissants, continental meats and cheeses, porridge and fruit.

All pupils from P4 – P7 are entering a competition to create a breakfast recipe book and all pupils throughout the school are thinking about what makes a healthy breakfast.

P7 have created leaflets for parents/carers about what makes a healthy breakfast and the benefits of eating one, which will be sent out this week.
