STV Children’s Appeal

***STV Children’s Appeal***

Thank you once again to everyone who came along to support our fundraising event for the STV Children’s Appeal with Sean Batty!  The final figure raised from dress down and sponsored welly walk was the grand total of £1246!  This is an outstanding achievement for our wee school so a HUGE ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed and supported us.

The PTA also held a very successful coffee morning and the proceeds from the teas and coffees and the bake sale raised £110.05.  This amount will be added to the PTA funds and they will let you know in due course what the money will be used for.

Thank you once again for a very successful morning 🙂

Tomorrow’s Welly Walk…

Good morning, quick update about tomorrow’s STV Children’s Appeal event…

The whole event takes place between 9.00-10.00am. Sean Batty will be here at that time. Please note that attendance to the coffee morning for adults/friends of the school, will be taken as your permission to be filmed/photographed, unless you speak to me directly.

The classes will be out for their sponsored welly walk at the following times:
P1/2/3 – 9.00-9.15
P4 – 9.15-9.30
P6/5 – 9.30-9.45
P7 – 9.45-10.00

You are more than welcome to walk with your child at their time – please just make your way out to the playground.

Before and/or after your child’s welly walk slot, they will be in the hall for the disco or in their class for a weather themed activity. Tunnock’s will kindly be providing goodies for the children which will be given out at some point tomorrow morning.

Children should wear wellies or suitable outdoor shoes for their welly walk (especially since it has been raining recently and the path will no doubt be a bit muddy).

All sponsor money should be brought in tomorrow or as soon as possible so we can send to the STV Children’s Appeal.

Welly planters for the competition should also be brought in tomorrow morning. We have a prize for P1-3 and P4-7 entries.

I hope this answers most of your questions about tomorrow’s event and we are all looking forward to seeing you.

Back to School with Sean Batty

Some important information will be making its way home to you about our special day coming up on Thursday 5th October.

STV weatherman, Sean Batty, will be joining us in school between 9.00-10.00am to help us raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal.

A sponsor form has been given to each child as well as a consent form.  This MUST be returned to school by the date shown.  A copy of the information letter is also attached here. Back to School with Sean Batty

We are all very much looking forward to the event and thank you in advance for your support.  More information about the coffee morning will be sent in due course – but please try and keep that morning free so you can come along and join in the fun!

Another busy week for P7!

We are beginning to get more into a routine now. This week we all got new reading groups and books (well except for one group who only had 2 chapters to do to finish the book!, but by Thursday they too had a new book! Yeah!)

Wednesday is our extended writing day, and this week we wrote a letter to ourselves. We wrote about what we enjoyed most about last year, what we are looking forward to this year working with a new class,  well a reunited class, and a (not so) new teacher. We challenged ourselves, in setting targets about what we would like to achieve this year. Mrs Loosemore says that at the end of the year we will look back at this letter to see if we have indeed achieved the targets we set ourselves. So we are all going to be trying our best to work hard to succeed!

After successfully completing our class charter, we decided to add a working agreement so that we could make our class a happy, safe, hard working, successful environment to be part of. We discussed what we thought our class should look like, and sound like then each of us gave an idea to be included in our agreement. We wrote them all down in our big book, then we all added our signature to show that we agreed with the document and would do our best to adhere to it at all times.

Next week is Maths week, so we all have passwords and usernames so we can get onto Sumdog to carry out maths challenges and take part in the Scottish Maths Challenge week. We can get onto Sumdog not only in school but at home too. We had a quick tour of the site then some of us tried some games on our own. It looks like fun and the more you do the more challenging the games get.

“I liked writing a letter to myself. I had to give myself targets, then I finished by giving myself advice as to how I could achieve the targets I had set myself. It will be fun and interesting to look back at it at the end of the year”-Kuba

“I really enjoyed getting onto Sumdog. Mrs Davidson introduced us to it, but we havent been on it since she left, so it was good to get back on. I am looking forward to the games and challenging myself!” Shayne

On Wednesday 9th November Primary 6 from Greenrigg came to Stoneyburn Primary to work with our Primary 6s. Our transition topic this year is “Bridges”.

First of all we researched the 3 bridges that cross the Firth of Forth.

They are:

Forth Rail Bridge
Forth Road Bridge
Queensferry crossing.
We discussed what we would like to find out about each bridge

We formed groups of 3 and got started using the Internet to find out the answers.

We produced a poster to share our information with others.

In in the afternoon we took part in a stem challenge. We had to design a bridge which was at least the length of a ruler and could hold the weight of a hole punch. We could only use art straws and elastic bands.

We all had different designs and different ways to make sure the hole punch could be held on the bridge. Some of our bridges were successful and some were not.

We debriefed the challenge at the end and came up with our next steps for our bridge building challenge.

P5-7 Children’s Wellbeing Survey

Stoneyburn Primary School will shortly be running a survey with P5 to P7 pupils. The survey is called the Children’s Wellbeing Survey.
Each child will be asked to complete a short online questionnaire during class time. The results of the survey will be used to understand the wellbeing needs of children and help staff to improve services in your area.

In addition to the survey, information will be added to the survey answers. This is called data linkage. No names will be used when answering the survey or in linking the local authority information – there will be no way children or families can be identified. For more information on data linkage and other parts of the programme, please see the Frequently Asked Questions on this website.

This will help to improve the way children’s services are planned and delivered by your local authority and their partners, such as education or voluntary organisations. The results will not look at children’s responses on an individual basis. This ensures that all responses are unidentifiable.
The results of the project will be used to understand the wellbeing needs of children in your area.
