Toys Topic Talk

Primary 2 have started thier new topic all about Toys.

We began by bringing our favourite toy to school and doing a short class talk about what our toy is, what it does, who gave us the toy and why it is our favourite.

We all enjoyed meeting everyone’s favourite toys and hearing all about them.

Christmas and Winter Activities

Primary 2 have been very busy doing some Christmas and Winter themed activities.

We have been writing  stories about Santa getting stuck up the chimney.  Luckily Mrs Claus, the reindeer, some helpful children or Mario have saved the day and helped Santa get out!

We have also been learning how to write instructions.  We have written instructions on how to build a snowman.

We have been designing our own Christmas Crackers:

We made some holly wreaths to decorate the classroom.

We made some snowmen using cotton wool pads and coloured paper.

We also painted some pictures of trees covered in snow.

Winter Wonderland

The Active Learning Room, used by Primary 1 and 2 has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland.

We have our very own igloo and fluffy polar bears, huskies and penguins to keep us company.

We also have an elves workshop to play in.  We have been busy designing our own toys and decorating boxes.

Winter Acrostic Poems

Primary 2 have been writing acrostic poems again.  We used the word Winter for our poem this week.  Here are some examples:

Winter is nearly here
I will go out to play in the snow
Now the snow has come
The snow is white
Eggs are for to eat inside
Run in the snow

Winter is in December
In the snow I build a snowman
Next December is Christmas
The top of the Christmas tree is colourful
Eggs at Christmas we eat
Run in the snow

Winter is coming
I like Winter
Now winter is here
Time to play outside
Elves come to town
Reindeer fly

Winter is good
I live Winter
Now it is icy
Tonight is snowy
Elves come out with Santa
Reindeer run to Santa

Little Elves Designs

Here’s a sneak preview of the decorations that the Little Elves in Primary 2 have been making.

They have also been making Letters to Santa Packs containing an envelope, writing paper and a pencil.

All the Little Elves decorations and Letters to Santa Packs will be sold on Tuesday Evening at the Christmas Fayre for 50p each.  We hope to see you all there.

Acrostic Poems

Primary 2 have been learning how to write an acrostic poem today.

First we made up two acrostic poems as a class with everyone sharing their ideas.  As a class we made an acrostic poem for STAR and one for MOON.  Here they are:

Stars are shiny
The stars are bright
All the stars are nice
Really sparkly in the sky.

Moves slowly
One moon in our sky
Only at night time the moon comes out
Near the moon are the stars.

We then went on to try and write our own acrostic poems for SANTA.  Here are some examples of our work.

Santa gives us presents
And he is very
Nice
Tonight santa comes
And he is a happy man.

Santa always watches you
All the elves make presents
Now it is Christmas
The reindeer are outside
A reindeer was flying in the sky.

Santa brings gifts
And he is a happy man
Now it is December
The elves make presents
At Christmas Santa comes.

Santa is the best
A reindeer was off sick
Now it is Christmas Eve
The reindeer is better
All the presents were delivered.

Santa is the best man
And he delivers presents
Night time and Santa comes
The elves work for Santa
And Santa is sleepy.

Christmas Art

Primary 2 have been very creative this week.
We  were given instructions  and had to follow each step to put together a reindeer head.  We drew around our hands to make the antlers and gave the reindeer a bright, red nose.
We had to use our listening and reading skills to make sure we completed each step.
Here are some examples:

We were also given instructions on how to make an elf’s head using a paper plate.  Again our listening and reading skills were used.
Here are some examples:

Our reindeer and elf heads now decorate the area outside our classroom.

Little Elves Designs

The Little Elves in Primary 2 have been busy at work this week designing and making Christmas tree decorations to sell at the Christmas Fayre.
Our market research helped us to choose what colours to use on our decorations.  We are using red, blue, gold, silver and white in our designs.
We hope you will all like the end products 🙂
