It’s almost Easter, so for art this afternoon we would like you to make an Easter card for someone in you house. We realise that you might not have lots of cards and stuff in the house and it is very tricky to get them from the shops. There is other things you can use, such as the inside of a cereal box, or the back of birthday/Christmas wrapping paper. If you are really stuck and don’t have any of these things to use, you can draw the front of your Easter card in your jotter and write your greeting on the lines below. Remember to be as colourful or creative as you can. Here are some simple ideas to get you started:
Remember to take a picture and email it to us so we can see what you have made. It will bring a smile to our faces.
Time to wake up after lunch with some music. Mrs Keenan has some activities she would like you to practise at home.
1. Learn a song about Easter:
2. Challenge yourself with rhythm reading by clapping along to this:
Playdough
Following a recipe and making something uses Literacy and Numeracy skills. If you have the ingredients in your house, try making some playdough by following the recipe below. Once you have made your playdough you could use it to practise spelling your tricky words or forming different letters.
You will need
• 8 tbsp plain flour
• 2 tbsp table salt
• 60ml warm water
• food colouring
• 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Method
1. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl mix together the water, a few drops of food colouring and the oil.
2. Pour the coloured water into the flour mix and mix with a spoon.
3. Dust a work surface with a little flour and turn out the dough. Knead together for a few minutes to form a smooth dough.
4. Store in a plastic sandwich bag (squeeze out the air) in the fridge to keep it fresh.
As always, let me know how you get on by commenting here or emailing photos to wlpolkemmet-ps@westlothian.org.uk and mark it P3.
Good afternoon P2. Hope you had fun making your salt dough this morning.
MATHS
This afternoon, use your salt dough to make different numbers. Try to make different numbers up to 100. If you want to challenge yourself then try to make numbers to 1000 and beyond.
If you didn’t make salt dough and don’t have any play-doh at home then make your numbers using dried pasta/raisins/chocolate buttons/lego bricks etc.
There are lots of Spring Maths activities on this website. Once you are on the website choose a Maths game – Easter eggs, flowers, bunny, present or chick. Have fun!
To set yourself up for the day, why don’t you try some yoga? Cosmic Kids is a good website for this.
Maths
Before completing the task on your Home Learning Grid that asks you to complete a family survey and present your findings as a graph, have a go at some of these activities.
3. Log-in to Sumdog and find the challenge I have set for you called Information Handling. Remember you will find your login details inside your blue jotter. See how many answers you can get right! (Remember that myself and Mrs Docherty can see how well you are doing 😉 )
www.sumdog.com
Literacy
Please log-in to www.educationcity.com (details are found in the front of your blue jotter) where you will see I have set you some Literacy challenges.
If you are having problems accessing Education City, then try watching the videos in this link:
I would like you to practise using commas when you are writing a list. Think of 4 things you need to paint a picture and write them in a sentence using correct punctuation.
e.g. You will need ……… , …………., ……….. and a ………..
Try to write some other sentences with lists. (what you will buy at the shop, what you got for your birthday etc)
Please remember to let me know how you get on – comment here or send photos to the school email address wlpolkemmet-ps@westlothian.org.uk, mark it P3.
We hope you are all well. This morning for P.E we would like you to take part in a cosmic kids yoga workout. I have attached a link of one you might like to join in with 🙂
Today for music Mrs Keenan would like you to celebrate Easter by singing and dancing along with Hosanna Rock
If you would like something different join in with Myleene Klass on her YouTube live where she is teaching you about rhythms. Here is the link
Literacy –
Tricky words – can you play word splat. You will need to get a piece of paper and cut it into squares. Write some of your words on the squares from your word wall. Put the squares on the floor, table or on the wall. Get an adult to say a word to you and see if you can splat it with your hand! How quickly can you splat the word?
Sounds – continue working on you ing sound. How many words can you write down that have ing in them? Can you make these words using playdough
Here is the playdough recipe
8 tbsp flour (any kind)
2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp veg oil
60ml water
Mix it all together, then knead it together.
You can add food colouring or herbs or glitter. If you keep it in a sealed bag it will last for a week. If it’s a bit wet add a bit more flour. Also is handy to have a little extra flour for dusting and it can get sticky as you use it.
Reading – can you log back into Oxford Owl and read Big Bad Bug again. If you did not complete both of the activities can you complete the other one today. Tell an adult what your favourite part of the book was.
Hi everyone. Hope everyone is safe and well. Here are a few tasks for this morning
Make salt dough with an adult to help you. It is very easy to make. Here is the recipe and instructions
4 tbsp flour (any kind)
1 tbsp salt
Half a tbsp vegetable oil
30ml water
Measure out your ingredients and mix them all together. Knead it together. If it seems too wet – add a little more flour
You can add food colouring/glitter/herbs etc if you want
Keep it in a sealed bag/box and it will last all week
Use your salt dough to make your first and second name. You could also try to make capital letters from your salt dough. Start at the letter A and try and make all the letters right through to Z. You can use the salt dough that we made in class that you took home too or play-doh.
If you finish this, try to make an Easter chick or bunny using your salt dough. Have fun. Leave a comment on this post to tell me how you are getting on with your salt dough. Enjoy! Mrs Reid.
Hope you have had a lovely morning and are enjoying your learning tasks.
As with literacy, we would like you to do some daily maths task. These can be done everyday this week. Your tasks are:
Count forwards to 100. Can you start at any number, for example 7, 27, 45?
Count backwards from 20. You can watch this short song to help you.
Today’s maths task is to keep learning you addition and subtraction facts. This week can you remember them to 10?
A Sumdog challenge has been set up for you all to take part in all week too.
For French this week, we would like you to keep practising counting to 10 in french. Here is a song to help you,
Try to say the numbers in french to someone in your house. Can you get all the way up to 10?
Your final task for this afternoon is a Lego Challenge.
You are stuck on Mars and need to build a new ship to get home.
Why not take a picture and send it to us on the school email wlpolkemmet-ps@westlothian.org.uk, mark it P1. We have loved seeing some of your creations and hardwork.
I hope you have all managed to complete some tasks this morning. Remember to let me know by commenting!
Here are some ideas for this afternoon:
French
1. Practise some French that we have already learned in school, for example:
Comment tu t’appelles? Je m’appelle …. Ca va? Ca va / ca va bien / ca ne va pas
You could even record yourself using a tablet or phone!
2. Watch the video clip in the link below and learn what school (normally!) is like for pupils in France. Practise speaking French by copying the parrot.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zbk3cdm
3. Think about what is the same as school in Scotland and what is different. (Think about a normal day, not when we are learning at home!). In your blue jotter write down the things that are the same and those that different between French and Scottish school. See my example below of how to lay it out —>
