Primary 2 – Tuesday 21st April

LITERACY

Good morning. This morning I would like you to log onto the Oxford Owls website to practice your reading. Here is the link

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?login=true

You can choose which book you would like to read. You can choose more than one if you can. Read your book to someone in your family. Try to create questions about the book you have just read. Think of a question for each of the following question words – who/what/where/why/when? Write your questions in your jotter.

MATHS

For Maths today, we will recap 3D shapes. Watch this video to remind you about the 3D shape names

Try to find objects around your house, in your garden or on your daily walk that are 3D shapes. Make a list of them in your jotter.

We learned about 3D shape properties in March. Watch this video to remind you

Find objects around your house that are 3D shapes – tins of beans/boxes of cereal/balls etc. Explain to someone in your family how many faces, corners and edges each of your chosen shapes have. Try to draw a picture of each of your shapes in your jotter and label them.

Remember to continue to pratice counting forwards and backwards to 100 and beyond starting with different numbers. Leave a comment and let me know how you are getting on. Mrs Reid

Primary 3

Good morning 🙂

I hope everyone’s brain has woken up from the holiday by now and you are all managing to complete some activities at home.

Maths and Numeracy – Estimation

Yesterday we practised estimating how many objects, today we are going to practise estimating where a number goes on a number line. We have practised this in class so it should be familiar.

1) Have a go at this game (I have put 2 links as the bottom one is for tablets):
https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/37/placing-numbers-on-a-number-line

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/310/Placing-Numbers-on-a-Number-Line-Tablet-Version

2) Using your whiteboard or blue jotter, draw a 0-100 number line like the one below and pick a number between 1 and 100. Estimate where this number will go by drawing a little line. Repeat for a few more numbers.

You can change the numbers at the start and end of your number line. If you found this too tricky, try a 0-20 number line and pick numbers between 1 and 20, for example. Or try a 10-20 number line and pick numbers between 10 and 20.

If you would like a challenge, make the number range even bigger, or try a 100-200 number line if you would like to practise 3 digit numbers, for example.

Literacy – Grammar

1) Watch this video about capital letters.

2) Please log in to sumdog.com and find a Grammar challenge called ‘Punctuation and Capital Letters.’ Remember all the types of punctuation we have learned so far and where we should use capital letters. (The start of a sentence, people’s names, place names, days and months…)

If you are unable to access Sumdog, try writing some sentences of your own in your blue jotter making sure you use punctuation and capital letters. ( . ? , ! )

As always, any questions please comment below 🙂
Thank you,
Mrs Harding

P1, P2 and P3 window challenge

Afternoon boys and girls,

When out on our permitted daily exercise we have noticed all of your lovely rainbows and teddy bears. Some of you have made other things for your windows for other children to spot. So we would like to set you all a challenge.

Each week we would like you to decorate your window with some of your lovely artwork using a different theme. This weeks theme is …

Fairytales

Can you draw pictures of rapunzel or Goldilocks and the 3 bears for your window? What about Jack in the Beanstalk or the 3 Little Pigs.

Stick them in your window along with your rainbows for all the children and adults to spot when they go on their permitted daily walk.

Can’t wait to see them!

Mrs Melia, Miss Beaton, Mrs Reid, Mrs Bashir, Mrs Docherty and Mrs Harding 🙂

Primary 2 – PE

For PE, we have been doing gymnastics. Can you watch the different balances on this link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMHOgzFTPSg

Try these balances in your house or garden. Make sure you choose an open space and make sure no one is close to you that could get hurt. The first balance is really tricky, try it if you want to, but the others you should manage with some practice. Try holding each balance for as long as you can. Try and see if you can beat your own time. Ask your family to join in and see who can hold the balance the longest. Have fun! Leave a comment to let me know how you get on please. Mrs Reid.

Primary 3

Good afternoon!

Here are some activities for you to try this afternoon.

Literacy – Spelling
Log in to sumdog.com and have a go at the spelling challenge I have set for you.

If you are unable to log in to sumdog, pick 8 of your tricky words from your word wall or sheet and practise spelling these. In your blue jotter write today’s date and then write each word 3 times. Next you can pick two other spelling jobs. (e.g. bubble writing, sentences, rainbow writing, pyramid words, draw and label.)

French
Watch this French video and practise counting forwards and backwards as the children hop. What game does this look like?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zrdg9j6

If you have a garden and some chalk, draw your own La Marelle and play with someone who lives with you.
Can you think of some other games that you could play in French? Have a go! (e.g. Hide and Seek, Snakes and Ladders…)

Have fun!
Mrs Harding

P1 Maths and IDL – healthy eating

Good afternoon boys and girls,

I hope you have managed to complete your tasks set this morning and that you have enjoyed getting back to your learning.

This afternoon for Maths we are going to look at symmetry. Can you tell someone at home what it means when something is symmetrical?

Remember its when the something  is the same on both sides.

Meet The Butterfly - Artemis - Medium

Today can you play this game on topmarks where you need to match up the pictures to make them symmetrical.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/symmetry/symmetry-matching

Can you find things in your house that are symmetrical?

Why not try to make your own symmetrical picture today? Make sure it is the same on both sides. You could make a face, a butterfly, a house or a flower.

Remember you can complete your SUMDOG challenge too!

For health and well-being we are going to be focusing on healthy eating. This afternoon can you listen to the three videos below on espresso. Remember your login details are in your blue jotter.

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/ey_food/videos/video_healthy_eating.html?source=search-all-F-all-all&source-keywords=healthy%20eating#

You can also play the little game where you need to sort the fruits into the correct category.

Once you have listened to the videos can you make a list in your jotter of your favourite and least favourite foods. This can be done with labelled drawings.

Have a lovely afternoon everyone 🙂

Miss Beaton and Mrs Melia

P2 RME

Mrs Grenfell has an RME task for you to complete on Judaism. Here it is…

Judaism is a religion. Jewish people practice Judaism.

Every Friday evening until Saturday evening is called “Shabbat”. It is the holy day of the week.

Watch this clip on Shabbat

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zs2hyrd

· Draw a picture of something Jewish people do at Shabbat.

· Tell an adult/brother or sister things that they do at Shabbat that are the same or different from the things you do at the weekend.

P1 Literacy, PE and French

Good Morning girls and boys,

For Literacy this morning we are looking at the ‘sh’ sound. Remember ‘sh’ can be at the beginning or end of a word. Here is a wee song to remind you,

Can you think of 4 words with the ‘sh’ sound? Tell them to someone in your house.

In your blue jotter draw 2 pictures of things with the ‘sh’ sound such as ship, shoe, fish or dash. Remember to add lots of detail.

Once you have drawn your pictures can you write the word next to it using your knowledge of sounds – think about what the first sound is, the middle sound and the last sound.

Then, can you think of a sentence with the ‘sh’ sound and write it on the lines underneath. For example, The fish is on the dish.

Remember to practise reading the words on your tricky word walls. And there is a Sumdog spelling challenge for sh words for you to try this week.

For PE, are you still keeping up with Joe Wicks? I’m joining in with you – it certainly gets your heart pumping! I wonder what he will be dressed up as today?

For French, we learned the names of the colours in French. Can you remember any of them? Some are quite similar to the colour names in english. Can you name the colours of the rainbow in French with Camembear (click on link)?

http://portal.headstartlanguages.com/home/rainbowfun

And here is a wee song,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzR_d6uJkb8

You can also pick some things to do on your home learning grid, if you are still looking for things to do.

Pop back this afternoon for maths and health and wellbeing tasks.

Bye for now 🙂

Mrs Melia and Miss Beaton

P2 – Welcome back!

Monday 20th April

Hello! I hope you had a lovely Easter holiday and didn’t eat too many Easter eggs. We are back to home learning today. Here is a new home learning grid with lots of tasks for you to complete.

home learning grid 2

I will still continue to post other tasks for you to complete each morning and afternoon. Please comment on these posts to tell me how you are getting on. I would love to hear from you!

This morning I would like you to write about your Easter holidays in your jotter. Write a few sentences to tell us what you did to keep busy during your two weeks off. Remember to include what you did, who you did it with and any other interesting information you can think of. Draw a picture too.

I have set up a spelling challenge on Sumdog for you to complete. Log into Sumdog and complete the games based on your groups previous spelling words. I will log in too and see how you are getting on. Good Luck!

Remember to practice your tricky words on your word wall each day with a family member. Try reading the words and if you want a challenge – try to write some too.
