Primary 3

Good afternoon!

Here are some activities for you to try this afternoon.

Literacy – Spelling
Log in to sumdog.com and have a go at the spelling challenge I have set for you.

If you are unable to log in to sumdog, pick 8 of your tricky words from your word wall or sheet and practise spelling these. In your blue jotter write today’s date and then write each word 3 times. Next you can pick two other spelling jobs. (e.g. bubble writing, sentences, rainbow writing, pyramid words, draw and label.)

French
Watch this French video and practise counting forwards and backwards as the children hop. What game does this look like?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zrdg9j6

If you have a garden and some chalk, draw your own La Marelle and play with someone who lives with you.
Can you think of some other games that you could play in French? Have a go! (e.g. Hide and Seek, Snakes and Ladders…)

Have fun!

P1 Maths and IDL – healthy eating

Good afternoon boys and girls,

I hope you have managed to complete your tasks set this morning and that you have enjoyed getting back to your learning.

This afternoon for Maths we are going to look at symmetry. Can you tell someone at home what it means when something is symmetrical?

Remember its when the something  is the same on both sides.

Meet The Butterfly - Artemis - Medium

Today can you play this game on topmarks where you need to match up the pictures to make them symmetrical.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/symmetry/symmetry-matching

Can you find things in your house that are symmetrical?

Why not try to make your own symmetrical picture today? Make sure it is the same on both sides. You could make a face, a butterfly, a house or a flower.

Remember you can complete your SUMDOG challenge too!

For health and well-being we are going to be focusing on healthy eating. This afternoon can you listen to the three videos below on espresso. Remember your login details are in your blue jotter.

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/ey_food/videos/video_healthy_eating.html?source=search-all-F-all-all&source-keywords=healthy%20eating#

You can also play the little game where you need to sort the fruits into the correct category.

Once you have listened to the videos can you make a list in your jotter of your favourite and least favourite foods. This can be done with labelled drawings.

Have a lovely afternoon everyone 🙂

P1 Literacy, PE and French

Good Morning girls and boys,

For Literacy this morning we are looking at the ‘sh’ sound. Remember ‘sh’ can be at the beginning or end of a word. Here is a wee song to remind you,

Can you think of 4 words with the ‘sh’ sound? Tell them to someone in your house.

In your blue jotter draw 2 pictures of things with the ‘sh’ sound such as ship, shoe, fish or dash. Remember to add lots of detail.

Once you have drawn your pictures can you write the word next to it using your knowledge of sounds – think about what the first sound is, the middle sound and the last sound.

Then, can you think of a sentence with the ‘sh’ sound and write it on the lines underneath. For example, The fish is on the dish.

Remember to practise reading the words on your tricky word walls. And there is a Sumdog spelling challenge for sh words for you to try this week.

For PE, are you still keeping up with Joe Wicks? I’m joining in with you – it certainly gets your heart pumping! I wonder what he will be dressed up as today?

For French, we learned the names of the colours in French. Can you remember any of them? Some are quite similar to the colour names in english. Can you name the colours of the rainbow in French with Camembear (click on link)?

And here is a wee song,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzR_d6uJkb8

You can also pick some things to do on your home learning grid, if you are still looking for things to do.

Pop back this afternoon for maths and health and wellbeing tasks.

Bye for now 🙂

Welcome Back Primary 3!

Welcome back everyone! I hope you have all managed to have a relaxing break and are ready to start your final term of Primary 3 🙂

Please find attached a new Home Learning Grid for the next two weeks. You can complete as many activities as you can. Mrs Docherty and I will continue to post on here twice a day as well so you can choose what to do and when.

Maths & Numeracy – Estimation
In class we have talked about estimation as a ‘clever guess.’ Have a go at this game and see how close you can get!
https://www.abcya.com/games/how_many_marbles_estimation

You can also practise estimating how many using different objects in your house. Collect a tub / box / bag and put in a few handfuls of something you can count (e.g. pasta shapes, sweeties, marbles, lego blocks etc). Use your whiteboard (from your Read Write Count bag) and firstly write down your estimate. Next, count the items carefully and write down the number. How close were you?! Remember you don’t need an exact answer, just one that is close enough. Try again with a different amount and see if you can estimate accurately!

Here is another estimating game if you need it:
https://mathszone.co.uk/count-and-understand/estimating/estimate-ngfl-cymru/

Remember to check Sumdog and Education City to see if you still have challenges to complete. Any questions, please comment here and I will help you.

Primary 1 – Science

Mr McCrudden has set you a new science challenge –

This week you need to try to build a bridge. You can use anything you would like to build it. You could use lego, boxes, anything that comes to hand. This time rather than trying to get height you need to see if you can build your bridge to hold weight, choose something you want to go onto the bridge. See if your bridge is secure to hold the weight. You can share pictures of your bridge by emailing them to the school email address in your title put P1.

P 1 Maths and Art

Afternoon everyone,

For maths today keep doing your daily tasks:

  1. Counting forwards and backwards.
  2. Addition and subtraction facts to 10.

Today’s task is to watch an episode of Numberblocks on BBC iplayer. Your choice of episode.

There are lots of games you can play on the Cbeebies Numberblock website. Here are a few, click on the title and it will take you there.

Numberblocks make and play

Numberblocks adding and subtraction

Numberblocks magic quiz

Why not do some Supermovers to get your body moving while doing your maths. Can you dance with Mr Pumpernickel (click here)?

Remember the Sumdog challenge is still running.

If you are going out for a daily walk there are lots and lots of rainbows and teddy’s in peoples windows. How many can you count?Last I counted I saw 8 different rainbows and 5 teddy’s. Can you beat my total?

For art, we have another Easter craft. Why not try to draw the Easter Bunny. Here is a short film to show you how.

Remember to keep washing your hands, especially if you went out for a ‘bear and rainbow hunt’.

Stay safe,

Mrs Melia and Miss Beaton
