Maths – 2D Shape

Remind yourself of the names of these 2D shapes (remember that 2D means flat). Can you identify their properties (how many sides, how many corners)? Go on a shape hunt around your house. How many shapes can you find?

Next, log on to Education City (your login details can be found inside the cover of your blue jotter).  Look for the P3 2D Shape activities that I’ve assigned to you and choose some to do.

Art / Technologies

On the Tate Paint website you can create your own masterpiece!  Can you create a colourful picture? Explore all the tools available to you. Perhaps it will inspire you to paint a picture using paper and paints if you have any at home?

https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/games-quizzes/tate-paint

French

Watch this clip where you will learn more about life in France.  Can you help Barnaby Bear identify what the different shops sell? You will have to be quick!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z2p76sg

In your blue jotter, write down the French shops listed below and draw a picture to show what each shop sells.

  • Salon de The
  • Boucherie

Language Learning at Home

Language learning is an important part of the curriculum and helps pupils develop skills in many areas.

SCILT (Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching) has compiled a list of resources to support parents at home with language learning.  Have a look here if you would like any resources:

https://scilt.org.uk/Parents/Homelearning/tabid/8402/Default.aspx?fbclid=IwAR2PxX-vkR9P_x_F9TNwMcKyXOtd2aLfyr1Vaus6aw3z0TPWXbs5D2kvDj8

French is the main additional language for pupils in P1-7 at Polkemmet.  Spanish is taught to pupils in P5-7.

P1 PE and Literacy

Good morning everyone,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Did you manage to enjoy some of the lovely sun?

For PE today, why not join Joe Wicks again. You must be getting super fit with all the exercise you are getting.

For Literacy today we would like you to pick a book from the Oxford E-Owls. This weeks book is ‘Clothes for Rain’. This is a non-fiction book, can you tell someone in your house the difference between a fiction and non-fiction book.

We would also like you to do some handwriting. You can pick any page in your handwriting jotters to complete. Watch this short film from BBC Bitesize on how to write letters b, h, k, m, n, p and r.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zgjj6sg/articles/z8qb97h

You can write them using different colours in your jotter, remember your finger spacing between each letter. Try not to let your letters float away, stay on the line.

Pop back this afternoon for some more learning ideas 🙂

Primary 3 – 11/05/20 AM

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and managed to enjoy the lovely weather.

This weekend I discovered a new route to take on my daily walk. It had a river with stepping stones to get across and there was a huge field for Cora (the dog) to play with her ball! On Saturday is was glorious sunshine so I didn’t mind when Cora jumped out of the river and soaked me from head to toe with the water! On Sunday we walked much faster because it was really cold. We had hot chocolate when we got home to warm up.

What did you do this weekend? This morning you can write your weekend news in your blue jotter and draw a picture to go with it. Can you spot the connectives in my news? (Remember they join two sentences together.) Try to use some connectives in your sentences today. Here are some examples of connectives to use:

and
but
because
so

To help you remember your other writing targets, here is a checklist for super sentences:

Maths – Money

For Maths this morning, we will continue with Money from last week. I would like you to set up a little shop in your house and pretend to be the shopkeeper. It could be a toy shop, a food shop, a book shop – whatever you have in your house! You could make up price labels or a price list for all the items. Practise paying for things and giving change. What coins would you need? Could you pay for it in a different way? I would love to see photos of your shops 🙂

Here is the link to the game from last week if you would like to play again:

Primary 1 Health and Wellbeing

Good morning boys and girls!

It’s Friday already, I hope your week has been good. We have loved being able to chat with you on the phone. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard from us yet we are going to carry this on next week. Everyone will receive a call.

It has been so nice seeing all your pictures in the new email mail box! Thank you for taking the time to send us your work. It definitely has cheered Mrs Melia and I up this week.

Today Jigsaw Jack would like you to make a poster to remind people to always wash their hands. Jigsaw Jack has been washing his hands before he eats food, after he has been to the toilet and once he has been out for his daily walk. He washes them for 20 seconds and he always makes sure he gets all his fingers, even his thumb and does the hedgehog to make sure the soap gets in between all his fingers.

Listen to the video and then make your poster.

On your poster you will need to draw a picture of someone washing their hands. Remember to out a message on the poster it might say Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap.

Send us your finished poster to our email where we can have a look at your poster.

Have a lovely safe weekend boys and girls. Speak to you on Monday

Primary 1 Maths

Good afternoon boys and girls,

It has been so nice to see your creations and work that you have been sending into the new email address! It is nice to be able to reply to you I hope it is putting a smile on your face. I know Mrs Melia and I are definitely smiling when we see all your hard work.

Today for maths can you practise saying the next number forwards and backwards. An adult at home will count to you for example 11, 12, 13 and you will need to say what comes next. Then try to do it backwards too for example 16, 15, 14 and you will say what comes before.

You might want to join in with this song to do some counting before you try your task.

You also have the game on education city where you can practise halving items.

Have a lovely day. It is another lovely day I hope you manage to get outside for some fresh air, maybe a walk or a cycle.
