Peep 4 (Tuesdays 9.15-10.15 & 12.45-1.45)

Today at Peep 4, we may have had a small group but we had huge learning experiences and fun.

The children engaged with a small water based activity. Lynn (our family support worker) brought out a small tray and the children used containers to fill the tray with water.  They then added ducks to the water, the children counted the ducks and role played with the ducks in the water.  Everyone enjoyed singing songs, circle time activities and listening to a  short story.

Peep 1 (Teddy Bears Picnic)

teddy bear

Our Peep 1 group, enjoyed a teddy bears picnic today. It was a wonderful experience for our young babies, providing a simple activity, with such valuable early  learning experiences.  Exploring the colour, smell, texture and taste of the food , was a highlight for our young learners. Joining the picnic, was some friendly teddy bears, another visual stimulation for our babies to enjoy. The babies enjoyed musical instruments, songs and a short story. It was perfect way to relax our babies after their morning adventure!

How to make the best ever, no-cook play dough recipe in just 4 minutes!

play dough

You need:

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • Up to 1.5 cups boiling water (when making with children and to keep hands safe you can use warm water-  it is just as effective)
  • food colouring (optional)
  • few drops glycerine (optional- adds more shine!)

Method:

  • Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl
  • Add food colouring to the water then into the dry ingredients (colour optional)
  • Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough
  • Add the glycerine (optional)
  • Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone. * This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it’s the perfect consistency!*
  • (If it remains a little sticky then add a touch more flour until just right)

Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade

Over the next two weeks the children will be investigating and learning about Fairtrade. Children will be bringing home the Fairtrade logo from nursery and are being encouraged to see if they can find any Fairtrade products at home. We would be very grateful if children could bring in any labeling or empty packaging that displays the Fairtrade logo from home.  We will be recycling labeling and packages,  to use on our Fairtrade investigation table.

The Children will be listening to stories,  playing games and will be involved in lots of discussions about Fairtrade.

If you would like to learn about fairtrade, follow the informative link below or why not ask the nursery staff to share our learning with you.

Activity ideas to make the most of the February holidays!

The Nursery will be on holiday both Monday 15th February and Tuesday 16th February.

Time away from Nursery does not have to be costly or challenging.  Listed below are some fun and free ideas for you to enjoy with your child at home….

Where do I live?

Get wrapped up warm and go a walk to the local shop or park. Look at your front door, before you leave.  What is your door number? What does your door look like? What is the name of your street? (Discuss this with your child.)

When it’s time to go home, holding your child’s hand and keeping them safe, allow them to lead you home.  Has your child lost their direction or did they lead you home?

Boxes of fun!

Collect some unwanted cardboard boxes, some shops and supermarkets are happy to give these to you.

Create a space indoors or outdoors if a dry day.

Encourage your child to think about what they can make with the boxes. A train,  bus, house, pirate ship…lets use our imagination.

You may be surprised at the amount of fun this basic activity will provide.

Add to the activity by providing pens and crayons to draw on the boxes!

Learn to Juggle!

Collect three small pieces of material.

Follow this video for a great demonstration on how to juggle!

Learn to juggle!

Who is the best juggler? Time each other, who can juggle the longest?

Go for a walk!

Plan a big walk. You will feel refreshed, full of energy and children will value that time with you, away from computers, phones and TV!
