Red Nose Day

On Thursday 14th March in the afternoon and Friday the 15th March in the morning the children and staff all came to nursery dressed in their pyjamas and onesies to raise money for Red Nose Day. The children were learning about contributing their time to bring about positive change in the wider community. The photographer from the Lothian Courier came to take our pictures and the children all had fun posing for the camera so look out for our photograph in the paper. All together we raised £80 for Comic Relief.  Well Done Knightsridge EYC.

The Three Little Pigs

In nursery we have been learning all about the story of the Three Little Pigs. The children have been listening to the story in smallgroup times and have been drawing lovely pictures from the story. We have also made houses from straw, sticks and bricks which we made into a wall disply. The children have really enjoyed learning how to make their own pig masks using different materials. Some of the children have also been acting out the story using puppets.

Fairytales

We are learning about Fairytales. We have been reading and listening to Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Some of the children have enjoyed dressing up as the three bears and acting out the story. We are learning about size, talking about the bowls, the chairs and the beds. The children have been making bear puppets and are using shapes to make Goldilocks. We are also learning how to match using pictures from the story. The children have also been learning how to make their own sandwiches for snack.

Valentine

Sainsbury’s supermarkets in Livingston have asked all 18 nurseries within a 2 mile radius of the store to produce a Valentine display to display in their store. The children have worked together to produce Be My Valentine which you will be able to see in the store. The store manager and colleague council will vote for their favourite display and that nursery will be awarded a £20.00 voucher to spend in store on toys or craft material etc for their nursery.

Chinese New Year

We have been learning about Chinese New Year. We have made Chinese Dragons from paper plates and crepe paper. We copied Chinese writing using red paper and black paint. We decorated red paper with gold items and then learned how to fold them into fans. These were then made into a lovely Chinese New Year display. On Thursday for snack we tasted Chinese noodles and prawn crackers for snack. The children have also had fun setting up a Chinese Restaurant and engaging in role play.

Winter

We have been learning about winter. We learned that when it is really cold water turns to ice and when it gets warmer it melts. We made ice paints to make pictures with. We added a little paint to some water in small paper cups and then put them in the freezer. The children thought they looked like lollipops! We also learned that because the ground is frozen it is hard for the birds to find food to eat. We found a recipe and learned how to make bird cakes which we then hung on the trees in the garden so that the birds would have something to eat. See the link below if you want to use the recipe at home.
We had great fun playing in the snow.
