Peep 1 (Teddy Bears Picnic)

teddy bear

Our Peep 1 group, enjoyed a teddy bears picnic today. It was a wonderful experience for our young babies, providing a simple activity, with such valuable early  learning experiences.  Exploring the colour, smell, texture and taste of the food , was a highlight for our young learners. Joining the picnic, was some friendly teddy bears, another visual stimulation for our babies to enjoy. The babies enjoyed musical instruments, songs and a short story. It was perfect way to relax our babies after their morning adventure!

How to make the best ever, no-cook play dough recipe in just 4 minutes!

play dough

You need:

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • Up to 1.5 cups boiling water (when making with children and to keep hands safe you can use warm water-  it is just as effective)
  • food colouring (optional)
  • few drops glycerine (optional- adds more shine!)

Method:

  • Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl
  • Add food colouring to the water then into the dry ingredients (colour optional)
  • Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough
  • Add the glycerine (optional)
  • Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone. * This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it’s the perfect consistency!*
  • (If it remains a little sticky then add a touch more flour until just right)

Creative Recycling

The All Stars and the 2 year old children had a fantastic time making Ba Ba Black Sheep and Humpty Dumpty. We started by sorting through the recycled bottle lids which we used to make a sheep. We got lots of glue and stuck the bottle lids on to the shape of a sheep. We then tore and scrunched up crepe paper and put it on to the sheep’s face with bottle lids to make eyes. It took a long time to dry but the results are great.  We then made Humpty Dumpty using lots of kinds of material. We chose different coloured patches and wool and stuck them on using lots and lots of glue to make sure they didn’t fall off. We then filled Humpty Dumpty up with bubble wrap and fixed it on to the wall.

What could you create at home, using recycled materials?

Peep 1

We have enjoyed an amazing few months at Peep 1. We have have been learning our colours with sensory play. Children have had colour themed weeks using water , sand , paint and treasure baskets. We have focused on the shape “Circle” learning how the shape feels and looks. We have explored balls of all sizes and textures. The most popular stories read, during this session was,  “Hooray for fish” and “Sharing a shell”.  We discovered that rhyming books are a great way to gain interest from young babies at story time, listening to the sounds and pace of our voice.  The babies where introduced to a new circle time song “I am tapping on the drum”. The song involved a drum being passed around the group, identifying the child by name, tapping on the drum  and repeating the song for each childs turn. It took no time at all, before our babies tapped/banged on the drums. For some babies, this was the first time they have used this type of skill. It was clearly demonstrated that routine is an extremely important part of children s learning! We have ended this session with a Christmas craft session, making our own Christmas decoration and tree.  We also enjoyed a puppet show, baby photo booth and party music!!!
