The children have had a lovely week this week at Ladywell Nursery School.  They did great taking part in our Christmas sing along; we hope you all enjoyed watching them.  At their party they enjoyed playing party games, dancing, a magician show and a visit to Santa’s grotto. Please take a look on your child’s learning journey to see a picture of them with Santa.

Nursery will return on Monday 6th January 2020.

We would all like to say thank you for your continued support and we hope you have a lovely Christmas and New Year.

Comments Off on Preparing for Christmas

This week in IEYC we have been getting prepared for Christmas.  We have been having lots of fun learning Scottish Country dances, circle games and practising our Christmas songs.

We have recently received a new water tray which the children are thoroughly enjoying experimenting with.

There is still a lot of interest around ourselves, therefore we have been measuring and comparing our height and shoe size.  Some children have been hand and feet printing.

The Child Accident Prevention Trust has provided information about how dangerous button batteries can be.There are posters in both nurseries showing where there might be batteries of this type in your home.

Button batteries, particularly big powerful lithium coin cell batteries, can badly hurt or kill a small child within two hours, if they get stuck in the food pipe. Know where yours are so you can keep your children safe.

The following video is also from the Child Accident Prevention Trust website, you may find it’s content upsetting.

It is not intended to be watched by/with children.

We’ve had a fabulous week at Ladywell Nursery School.  The children received a visit from West Lothian Council waste services team where they carried out different activities with the children.  One activity was looking at bean bags with a picture and word telling you what it was e.g. toothpaste. The children had to decide what colour of bin it went in and then post it in the bin. The children were also developing their fine motor skills when using the grabber to pick up the rubbish and recycle it into the coloured bins.  Well done boys and girls!

The children have enjoyed the experience of all the different Christmas activities on offer.  Christmas collages and  Christmas card making along with writing letters to Santa to tell him what they would like for Christmas.  The children also enjoyed walking to the post office to buy a stamp then walking to the post box to post their letter to the North Pole to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas.

Ladywell Nursery School

This week in Ladywell Nursery School some children took part with litter picking in the woods in our local community. Whilst they were picking up all of the litter we discussed the reasons why we were doing so and why it’s important to keep the community clean. At the end of the walk they watched a member of staff put the filled bag of litter into the main bin where they explained that the bin lorry and bin men/women will come to pick it up. The children are becoming more aware of the different jobs and roles people have in the wider community.

In the sensory room this week the children have enjoyed learning about light and dark which links to our current floorbook.  They were mark making with the coloured light up boards sharing their thoughts and feelings with others. They have also been investigating with the coloured magnetic blocks identifying different colours and learning how magnets stick together.  They are continuing to enjoy the experience of the black tent where they are using the torches to see and some children have asked for the light to be off in the room to further explore darkness.  Next week the children will be learning all about the moon and why there is a moon.  Children’s comments and photos will be added to floorbook.  If your child happens to share their learning at home with you in relation to light and dark please feel free to add a comment about this into the floorbook.

This week at the construction area the children having been using their imagination to create models through block play.  Staff are also encouraging children to risk assess their play when standing on the large wooden blocks to encourage them to think about whether or not it is safe or not safe. Well done boys and girls!
