Due to recent developments if you are looking for activities to do at home with your children I highly recommend visiting www.pinterest.co.uk  and type in early years activities.  There are lots of ideas on there for children to learn through their play.

This week at Ladywell Nursery School the children drew some pictures to give to the local care home to hopefully raise a smile.  The children had fun sharing what they had drawn. Well done!

The children have had a busy week at Ladywell Nursery School.  They went out on a walk to Howden walled garden where they had fun exploring.  Whilst there they noticed some signs of spring.  They also enjoyed investigating the planters and standing underneath the willow.  We will be going back next week to the garden to have more fun!

The children had fun making their own play dough learning how to mix ingredients together to create it.  They were developing their number skills by counting how many spoonfuls of flour etc they would need.  They were also developing their hand and eye co-ordination when scooping out the flour and placing it into the jars.  Well done boys and girls!

Parent Council have asked me to share some information below:

Our Parent Council consists of Parents/Carers of children who attend Harrysmuir Primary School/Ladywell Nursery School and Inveralmond Early Years Centre.
The purpose of our parent council is to assist these 3 educational establishments in organising and planning fund raising events and other activities throughout the school term.
This is not possible without the help of all of you!
If you think you could help assist fundraising or give a little of your time to volunteer for activities we would love to hear from you.

A parent council meeting will be held on Tuesday 31st March at Harrysmuir Primary School at 6.30pm.  We would love for parents/carers to come along.

Thank you.

These video clips are aimed at slightly older children than at nursery but I thought they were worth sharing as they provide a child friendly way of talking about germs (without being too alarming), how we can wash our hands effectively and why it is great to catch sneezes in tissues!

There’s been great excitement in Ladywell Nursery School this week as the children have decided they would like some fish to look after.  They have been busy cleaning out the tank and setting it up in preparation.  Thank you to everybody who has donated to nursery funds as this has enabled us to buy a water pump, aquatic plants and decorative stones for the tank.

Next installment… the children are going to choose what fish they would like to have for the tank and are going on a visit to buy these.  If you have any spare pennies lying around the children have made a donation box to help us buy the fish.

Thank You.

The children have been busy outdoors where they were making bird feeders, developing their fine motor skills. They picked up cheerios to thread through a pipe cleaner helping to develop their hand and eye co-ordination skills.  They then placed them onto the tree branches for the birds to enjoy.

The children had a great time going out on an outdoor walk looking for 2D shapes around the environment.  They also played a fun game where they jumped onto slabs that were 2D shaped.

The children had a great time investigating dinosaur fossils this week then creating their own.  They were developing their mathematical skills when measuring out ingredients to make salt dough.  They took turns to use the circle cutters and dinosaurs.  Afterwards they enjoyed painting their fossils choosing what colour of paint they would like.

The children had fun using an electronic Bee-Bot to navigate him on our number mat.  They learned how to make him go forwards and backwards etc as well as developing the children’s number and turn taking skills.

Well done boys and girls!
