School Council Meeting 8/6/11

Sport, Health and Fitness Week feedback:
* P2’s favourite things were cooking a stir fry, making a fruit kebab and sport day.
*P1’s favourite activities were the Judo, teacher rotation and the races finals. They learned how to make a stirfry, a fruit kebab and how to hula hoop.
P5/4 –Really liked making the class flag and doing the opening ceremony. They enjoyed doing the activities with the visiting specialists like karate, football and the dentist. It was a good week because everybody got to try out a new sport. Next year we would like some dance and gymnastics activities. The whole class had a lot of fun during the week.
P3/2- Judo, Karate and making fruit kebabs were the favourite activities. Preferred the 2 day teacher rotation this year and being able to try the different foods. Everybody is now drinking plain water after visiting the dentist and some are choosing fruit instead of crisps for break.
P7/6- In future get P7s to help make up the timetables and organise activities such as having a scavenger hunt. Was a well organised week.
P7- Enjoyed being responsible for helping at the P1-4/3 sports day. Good variety of sports and enjoyed tasting the different foods. Enjoyed watching the DVD at the closing ceremony.
P3- Enjoyed doing hula hooping and beat the goalie. Would like to do a cross country race next year. Football and the awards ceremony were their favourite things.
P6- Football, teacher rotations, healthy teeth, sports day and jog Scotland were the most popular activities.
P4 and P4/3- Liked tasting different foods and drinks. Would like it if we could get gymnastics and tennis next year. Liked the dentist because they learned a lot of new things. Some pupils didn’t enjoy the football as they found the dribbling skills a bit boring.

AOB
* Pupils would like to have a school football team.
* Pupils said the litter is getting out of control again so we should get the litter pickers started up again. J Gray stressed the importance of getting children to stop dropping litter and use bins provided.
*Would like to try and get the Healthy tuck shop back. *It was suggested that classes could choose their own topic to research for a few weeks.
*P7/6 suggested a week where children bring in a wellington boot to use as a planter to tie onto the fence. *Children want the quiet area to be opened back up. J Gray will check if it is safe to do so. *Girls suggested their bathroom needed repainted. * Children would like more flowers around the school. Mrs Gray suggested a bring a plant to school day which could be used around the school. The council thought was a good idea and it will now be discussed with staff.
*P7 pupils at Kingswood: Pupils really enjoyed Kingswood and all the activities they got to do. They got to go on quad bikes, a leap of faith, zip wire, do circus skills and nightline. The best activity was the 3G swing. Pupils said it was good to get a chance to do things that they might not do again and they got to mix with children from different schools. Each night there was an activity where all the pupils got together such as discos etc. Children got rewarded for going to bed on time with extra time the next night.

Next Class Council Meeting Agenda-
Please discuss the following points with your class for the next meeting:
*What are the highlights of the year e.g. favourite topic, class trips, sports week, winning the wii etc. Try to vote on the most popular highlights of the whole class rather than individual children.
*One thing that you would like improved at Eastertoun Primary for next year.

P7 @ Kingswood

Greetings Eastertoun Primary School1! We hope you are all having an ace Sports, Health and Fitness Week and that the weather has been nice for you! Miss Weston organised a great week and we are looking forward to joining in on Thursday and Friday if we are not too tired!

Camp has been absolutely fantastic and we are having a ball! We have only had a little rain and today it is really warm!

Mr Bennett and I have been really brave and we went on the 3G Swing and Leap of Faith! There is video footage for all to see so you can see how terrified I was! Miss Thomas was brave and went on the 3G swing also! Her face was a picture!

Our P7’s have been a credit to the school and have behaved well. They have been developing their teamwork skills and have really supported each other in scary activities such as the 3G swing and zipwire!

We are all looking forward to the disco tonight and have completed a video diary for you all to see when we get back!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday and enjoy your sports day tomorrow!

Miss McTiernan, Mr Bennett, Miss Thomas and P7

P4 13/5/11

We watched the author James Mayhew on Glow on Thursday. We are writing a book to add to his Katie series. Katie is going in a time machine to meet famous Scots.
We made mobiles to show the life cycle of a butterfly.
This week the Circles group moved on to Heinemann 5 in Maths.
It was Daniel’s Special Day this week.
Lewis and Max went to Blackridge Primary to take part in a Generation Science roadshow. They got to hold a snake, a parrot, a hedgehog and a toad.

P2 Summerlee visit

We visited Summerlee in Coatbridge as part of our olden days topic. We saw what children used in school and how they werw punished. We got dressed up and did some dancing. We were taught the twist and hand jiving. We got to play with old toys like whip and peerie. We pretended to wash clothes and put them through a mangle. In the afternoon we took the tram to the old cottages and saw how people lived a long time ago. We also went down the mine to see how the miners dug for coal. It was very dark in the mine. It was a lovely day and we all had a great time.
