P6/5 Poetry Writing

In P6/5 this term we have been writing a variety of Senses Poems about Autumn, Hallowe’en and Guy Fawkes Night. We are trying to tell our friends about our experiences of these fun times as well as using similes, metaphors, alliteration, personification, alliteration and onomatopoeia to make our poems really intereting!

Eastertoun PS – Rights Respecting School

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers / adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.

At Eastertoun Primary School we were thrilled to receive our “Recognition of Commitment” certificate which is the first step on our journey towards becoming a Rights Respecting School.

In school we are currently raising awareness of children’s rights and responsibilites as highlighted in the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. Children have been engaged in a variety of activities in class and in whole school assemblies.

Over the next few weeks you will see updates on our blog and look out for our new display in school. You will also begin to see references to the various articles from the UN Convention of the Child in various displays around school.

P7 – Sport Afternoon

P7 pupils visited Armadale Academy last week to work with 4th Year pupils in a variety of different sports. The children were able to choose between basketball, badminton, football, benchball and dance.

P7 enjoyed their experiences at Armadale Academy and were given the opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of sports. Benchball was a clear favourite amongst those who chose this as one of their options and this is something we will play at some point in our PE learning over the next term.

We are looking forward to attending Armadale Academy next week for the Athletics Sports leader festival!

P7 Shoebox Appeal

Over the last few weeks P7 pupils have been busy organising and packing shoeboxes full of sweets, school supplies, toiletries, clothing and toys to send to children in countries such as Kosovo, India and Romania. This was done as part of an appeal by the charity Blythswood Trust.

Thanks to the time and organisation of our P7 pupils and the generosity of our pupils, staff, parents and carers we managed to pack an incredible 55 shoe boxes as well as providing the charity with 3 sacks full of surplus supplies to be fitted into shoeboxes at their sorting warehouse.

The effort made will result in 55 children and young people receiving a Christmas gift this year as opposed to nothing at all.

The P7 pupils and I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and support for this wonderful charity!

P7 Science Competition

P7 pupils took part in an active science task this week when they were asked to design an information leaflet detailing their knowledge and understanding of plate tectonics, earthquakes and the recent Japanese earthquake! The winner of the competition was Eilidh Robertson! Congratulations to her!

Shoe Box Appeal

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has brought in items for our shoe box appeal. P7 pupils will be wrapping shoeboxes and filling them when we return from our October holidays! Remember you still have time to bring in items!

P7 Active Maths

This term P7 pupils are working on a really interesting active maths challenge. They are working in pairs to plan, budget and design their own theme park. Eventually this project will lead us to learn all about budgets, profit and loss. We have created promotional leaflets to advertise our theme park and written poems about our own theme park experiences. As part of our technology learning this term we will be building scale models of our theme parks! Come into class and see the learning taking place!

P7 @ Kingswood

Greetings Eastertoun Primary School1! We hope you are all having an ace Sports, Health and Fitness Week and that the weather has been nice for you! Miss Weston organised a great week and we are looking forward to joining in on Thursday and Friday if we are not too tired!

Camp has been absolutely fantastic and we are having a ball! We have only had a little rain and today it is really warm!

Mr Bennett and I have been really brave and we went on the 3G Swing and Leap of Faith! There is video footage for all to see so you can see how terrified I was! Miss Thomas was brave and went on the 3G swing also! Her face was a picture!

Our P7’s have been a credit to the school and have behaved well. They have been developing their teamwork skills and have really supported each other in scary activities such as the 3G swing and zipwire!

We are all looking forward to the disco tonight and have completed a video diary for you all to see when we get back!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday and enjoy your sports day tomorrow!

Miss McTiernan, Mr Bennett, Miss Thomas and P7
