Scotland’s annual re-use week is the most fun, social and flexible environmental week in the calendar. Get swapping, sharing, donating or repairing literally any type of item – from clothes to bikes, from books to sports kit, from gadgets to tools.  This years theme is ‘The Big Electrical Amnesty’.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to get the message out about keeping stuff in use for longer, and to encourage people to see that although they’ve finished with something, it can be still have a useful life with someone else.

Reduce…Reuse…Recycle…Win!

We are excited to be running our first Learning for Sustainability Up-cycling Competition, open to all children from Nursery to P7.  To tie in with Waste Week 2017, the Learning for Sustainability Secondment Team would like children and teachers to be creative as possible and up-cycle something old into something new!  There are a wealth of ideas on The Pod http://jointhepod.org/campaigns/campaign/59, which may help with inspiration!
The closing date for the competition is Friday 24th March 2017, and winning designs from each stage will be awarded a £15 Amazon voucher.  Please email photos of all submissions to brownl41s@glow.sch.uk, and please include the name of the child, class and school.

Good Luck, and Happy Up-cycling!

LfS Leaders in Stirling

Last school session we started the LfS Leaders programme with Education Scotland. Practitioners from schools across the local authority met regularly and shared ideas, examples of practice and to seek advice from local partner organisations who could help.

We are now excited to launch the second round of our LfS Leaders programme. Different establishments are at different stages in the development of LfS and we hope that by taking part in this leaders programme we can all learn from each other, share ideas and collaborate to give our young people the best outcomes possible.

The first part of our programme will involve a twilight session on March 9th followed by a day on March 10th observing good practice and speaking to other practitioners who have developed a whole-school LfS approach within Glasgow.
If a member of your team would like to join our LfS Leaders programme please email our Learning for Sustainability secondment team: mcgraths30s@glow.sch.uk
