‘Recognition of Commitment’ (ROC)

roc-certificate

The Recognition of Commitment (ROC) is the first stage of the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA). It has allowed us to reflect and begin to build towards the four standards of the UNICEF award, it is a critical step, which ensures that:

  • Balfron High’s senior leadership team (SLT) understand what is involved and is committed to embarking on the Unicef UK rights-respecting journey
  • We have put the right foundations in place for our journey to Level 1.

The Recognition of Commitment (ROC) is granted by Unicef UK. This stage of the Award is about showing that you have a plan in place to become rights-respecting and that young people and adults in your school are working together to achieve the Award.

Steps we have taken:

  1. We have established a steering group of young people and adults to lead and monitor the progress of the award
  2. We have carried out a baseline audit taking into account the views of young people and adults. Which included the completion of a Level 1 Audit and Action Plan informed by the audit. Listening to young people is an integral part of the Award and helps to ensure that the principles of participation, non-discrimination, best interests and respect underpin the schools practice.
  3. We have informed parents through electronic mail and the Balfron Highlights Newsletter about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the Award
  4. We have included the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) in the school’s strategic planning
  5. We are continuing to plan opportunities for pupils to learn about the Convention and its importance to the well-being of children and young people locally and globally.
