UNICEF has been looking to strengthen and streamline the existing programme model building on the very best practice that they have already see from school visitations. Following a review by the team at the Judge Business School at The University of Cambridge last year, they have been working hard to get a new scheme in place. To help schools to make faster and better progress they have rationalise documentation and will focus more on outcomes for children and young people, rather than requiring specific processes and actions.
Following consultation with children and adults the levels will be renamed to Bronze – Recognition of schools Commitment, Silver – Rights Aware (Level 1) and Gold – Rights Respecting (Level 2).
Due to our work over the past few years we have recently been awarded the Unicef UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA), Bronze Award.
This is confirmation that we have a pupil-led steering group and have an action plan to ensure that:
- The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) underpins our values and decision making in school
- The whole school learns about the CRC and respects the rights of others
- Children are empowered to become active learners and active local and global citizens.
