Participation in the Outright 2017 campaign:
OutRight is a special campaign for schools in the UK that empowers young people to speak out about children’s rights and celebrate the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
OutRight 2017 encouraged us to celebrate World Children’s Day. As well as this, this years campaign encouraged us to focus on the rights of refugee children, in particular their right to be reunited with their family in the UK. This year’s campaign is a continuation of the OutRight 2016 campaign which Balfron High focused on the rights of refugee children.
As can be seen from the above image, Balfron High was recognised for its engagement with this sessions outright campaign, where many Form Classes had the opportunity to be introduced to Muzoon (Unicef Goodwill Ambassador), a young Syrian refugee, whom had to leave her home in Syria when she was only 14. As the Form Classes worked through a variety of UNICEF learning resources, it gave them a deeper insight to the plight of many children around their age, whom prior to conflict had life’s very similar to theirs.
Getting involved ensures the voices of young people at Balfron High will contribute to key areas of Unicef UK’s work. Our participation and involvement in the 2016 and 2017 campaign will also help Balfron High towards meeting RRSA’s Standard D, empowering children to become active citizens and learners.
