Members of the South Lanarkshire Schools (SLS) choir recently took part in a Lanarkshire wide musical collaboration as part of the 2026 Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. Featuring 24 talented young vocalists, the SLS choir joined forces with eight other choir groups from across the region in the stunning setting of Motherwell Cathedral. Together, these groups formed the Lanarkshire Choir Collective, a 500-strong ensemble specially created to bring together the region’s finest choral talent.
The project centres around Sanctuary, a specially commissioned piece by renowned composer Jason Robert Brown. After participating in a professional recording of the work, the SLS choir will join the rest of the collective live on stage for a special concert at the Hamilton Town House on Thursday, 29th October 2026.
Beyond the music, the Sanctuary project focuses on values of connection, hope, and kindness. It stands as a powerful demonstration of the incredible impact communities can make when coming together with a shared purpose to support mental health and well-being.
