The South Lanarkshire Schools’ Big Band brings together talented young musicians from across the region to rehearse and perform. The Big Band celebrates the rich traditions of jazz and big band music covering styles from classic swing, latin and contemporary arrangements. From Count Basie to Stevie Wonder, their repertoire highlights the versatility and enthusiasm of these young musicians.

Under the expert direction of the SLC instrumental music teachers, the ensemble provides an invaluable opportunity for students to develop advanced performance skills, gain experience in improvisation, and perform live at events throughout South Lanarkshire and beyond. Regular rehearsals and concerts help promote confidence, teamwork, and creativity — key values at the heart of the Council’s music education programme.
