Weekly Check In

Good morning boys and girls🌈

Pop up a little message with the help of your grown ups to say hello.

A very short week this week! I won’t be posting a Fantastic Work Friday this week, however all the pictures that have been sent in will be joined up with next weeks pictures. To those who sent a lovely message or picture for Mrs Anderson’s birthday, I sent her them on Monday and she said  they made her day 🥳  I know there were some other birthdays at the start of this week too (Sophia and Rory, if I’m not mistaken) I hope you both had a lovely day!🎈

Have a lovely long weekend of fun!

Miss Laidlaw

Wednesday Challenge

Hello everyone

Time for this week’s challenge
THE RAINBOW CHALLENGE

This weeks is a little bit easier than last week and it’s a lovely one. I bet you have noticed a lot of rainbows when you are on your walks. You have maybe even made one for your window at home!

Rainbows are a sign of hope just now, something to make us all smile and to let everyone working hard know that we are really proud of them. Also, to let our friends and family know that we miss them. SO, this week I am challenging you to create a wonderfuly unique rainbow in a different way from drawing or colouring.

Here are some examples I have found:

Nature                                                                                    Lego

Cut and stick

Baking

Iron on beads    or pipe cleaner 3D rainbow

Some other ideas could be to use things you have lying around your house and garden to make a huge rainbow on the ground. You could also do a science experiment to make a rainbow  (google has loads). I’m planning to make a rainbow tye-dye t-shirt so you could also do something like that.

When the time to stay home is over and we see a rainbow in the sky, I hope that it’ll always remind us of how lucky we are to be able to do all of the things that we are missing right now.

Have fun boys and girls – I can’t wait to see your wonderful creations!

Miss Laidlaw❤️🌈

Monday 4th May – Make a Planisphere

What is a planisphere and why would we need one to look at the night sky? You’ll see how you can make a planisphere with our handy planisphere print out. We will show you how to use the planisphere for backyard astronomy. You’ll need the planisphere print out (download below), some scissors, blu tack, a split pin (or similar) and some adult permission and supervision. Most suitable for budding astronomers aged 7 and over. View on YouTube.

Download the planisphere print out.

Tuesday 5th May – The Monty Hall Problem

Probability has never been so much fun! Explore the ‘The Monty Hall problem’ with us – will you decide to ‘stick or switch’ when the odds of winning a prize change? The chances of this maths problem being a hit are stacked in your family’s favour! For a further probability activity to try out afterwards you’ll need a pack of playing cards. Fun for everyone with science and maths over 7s will enjoy! View on YouTube.

Wednesday 6th May – Straw Oboes

Strike the right note for a tuneful family activity! Learn about how sound travels, how we get different pitches and make your own straw oboe. To join in at home, you’ll need some paper or plastic straws, some scissors, and adult permission and supervision. Ideal for ages 5 and over.

Thursday 7th May – Coat Hanger Clanger

Tune in for an entertaining exploration of how sound travels through different materials. You can try this out at home! You’ll need some string, a sturdy ‘wire’ metal object like a coat hanger, whisk or the top of a grill from a cooker (minus the steak!). Plus you’ll need adult permission and supervision. Ideal for ages 5 and over.

Friday 8th May – Make Your Own Codebreaker

Learn about cryptography and find out how to send and receive your very own secret messages. You will need some paper, a ruler, pens or pencils, scissors, and some adult permission and supervision. Most likely to appeal to over 7s.

Fantastic Work Fridays

Good morning boys and girls and happy May🎉 (a month of lots of birthdays in our class, we discovered!)

I can’t believe we are here already – hopefully the time going so quickly means we will be back at school before we know it. The end of the week is fast becoming my favourite time of the week. I love seeing all of your hard work and photos, reading all of your lovely and sometimes funny messages and spending time replying to you. I am so proud of you all. Thank you for checking in again this week (we even had a birthday -Happy Birthday Anna-Rose🎈).

Some of this weeks fantastic work

OM has been working hard this week. He looks like he is working hard on his spelling and his handwriting. And just look at his amazing WW1 trench. What a great job – well done O⭐️ Can you spot some of the things we learned about the trenches? I think I can spot a dugout.

Some fantastic gardening happening in OM’s household by him and his little brother. He has also been busy baking and then delivering some delicious cake to family doorsteps on his daily walks. I said since he has been so kind I will forgive him for being on that broomstick! 🙂 What a star you are O!

Someone else who has been enjoying their daily walk adventures with his family is ZS. Here is at the park using some serious balance and climbing skills to build a Dam with his big brothers! Very creative Z 🍃

From all of the messages, I could see that lots of you enjoyed the Harry Potter trip this week. I even had a go and loved it ⚡️ Here is JM enjoying the tour around the studio with his litter sister. He has also been busy working on his spelling and summarising this week. Great work J✨

And finally there has been some very creative building going on this week in Room 4 in very different ways.
CT built a fantastic lego Titanic – It must have taken ages! Amazing job C⭐️
FH, along with his brother and his mum, built an amazing spaceship using cardboard and enjoyed playing in it afterwords. Well done F🚀

I will upload all of the Wednesday challenge photos to the ‘weekly challenge’ tab at the top of the page at the end of today so you can see how your friends got on. Here is a sneaky peak below of one the spaghetti challenges. I was blown away, I’m sure you will be too🙂 Well done L, this was definitely a tricky one!

Well done everybody in Rm4. Another busy week🙂 Although I have to cover up the faces, I can promise you there are lots of happy boy and girls underneath those stars. Well done to the grown ups, you are amazing too!

Mrs Anderson also thinks you are all amazing – she has left you all a lovely comment below!  It’s her birthday on Monday too 🙂 Since we can’t make her a card in our class, maybe we can leave her some birthday messages below.

Have a lovely weekend everybody.

Miss Laidlaw💕

Check in!

This is our weekly check in station. Just the same as last week, please leave a comment to ‘check in’ and let us know how you all doing 🙂 This can be just a simple ‘Hello’ or even a sentence about how you are or something you have been doing this week.

I have had a fun and busy week helping the Primary 1 and 2 boys and girls in Calderwood but I have been missing my own room 4 gang!

Miss Laidlaw

Fantastic Work Fridays

Good Morning boys and girls,

Wow! I really enjoyed spending some time yesterday looking through all of Room 4s emails and photographs. You lot have been very busy and it’s lovely to see your happy faces in some of those pictures! I am so proud of how hard you are all working and it’s good to see that you are remembering it’s important to have fun too 🙂

I have uploaded the Wednesday Challenge photos I have received to the tab at the top (see how your friends got on) and I am glad you all enjoyed it. There were some very interesting finds. Well done everyone!🌟 I wonder what next week will bring…

Some of this weeks fantastic work

I love this puzzle that AC was working on – I might need to try a circle one like that next. It looks tricky. She also wrote a great imaginative story all about a black and white horse. Well done A⭐️

C.P has been hard at work with her dad making an amazing WW1 tank. Isn’t it just fabulous? I love the detail and the camouflage colours. Wonderful job C👏🏻

Some more WW1 learning going on in JM’s house. He found this war memorial on his daily walk in Cambuslang park and spent some time reading it. He has also been recreating WW1 battles with his own toy soldiers!

As well as this JM has been making bird feeders out of milk cartons (very Eco friendly) and enjoying some quiet reading time. You are a star J!🌟

And I’ll finish off with some really wonderful news this week…

Our SB had a very special spring break this year as she became a big sister over the holidays! What a beautiful picture she has sent us (have a look on twitter to see her properly) and what an amazing big sister she will be. Congratulations S and family, such lovely news for us all to hear✨

Remember if you haven’t yet ‘checked in’ leave a comment on our check in station that I posted yesterday. I will post this every Thursday.

Well done for working so hard this week everyone! Have a great weekend.

Miss Laidlaw🌸

We’re going on Safari!

Hi boys and girls 🙂

I hope you’re enjoying the home learning activities for this week. Today, as mentioned on the school app, I thought we could do something a bit different and go on a ‘virtual’ school trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park. There is a live lesson all about monkeys today at 12pm on their Facebook page. During the lesson, there will be a question and answer session if you have anything you would like to ask Shonagh. There will be a fun quiz after to test your knowledge. I will be watching too so leave me a comment below to let me know what your favourite part was or a fact you learned. If you can’t tune in at 12pm, don’t worry. You can still watch the video at a later date. Last week’s lesson about penguins is still available too! You can access their Facebook page by clicking on the link below.

https://www.facebook.com/blairdrummondSP/

Have a good day!

Miss Laidlaw

Check in!

Good Afternoon🌞

Following on from Mrs McGarvey’s message on the app, we would love to know how all of the boys and girls are doing.  Leave a comment on this post to ‘check-in’ and you can help the children to tell us how they are and anything nice they have been doing.

Boys and girls, see if you can spot your friends comments and what they have been doing!

After a busy morning on my laptop, I’m now spending some time resting in the garden with a cup of tea and enjoying this glorious weather!

Miss Laidlaw🙂

Free Books

Just a note to let you know about a fantastic website Miss Muir came across!

https://readon.myon.co.uk/library/browse.html

This website has lots of free books to read online. You don’t need to register or login.Books are organised into various different categories, if you search for an item you can filter the options to books for your year stage using the funnel button at the left of the screen (for P2 we would be Year 1).

There is an option to have the book read aloud to you using the play button at the bottom left of the screen once you select a book to read. Words are highlighted as you read and there’s even a dictionary built in that you can search for the meaning of any words you are stuck on.

Have fun reading some new books!

Ps. It’s so lovely to hear from some of our children and parents in the comments! But please remember to sign off your comment with who you are (who your child is) as sometimes email addresses aren’t very clear and it would be lovely to know who I am hearing from.
