Spelling
Red Team – Consolidation Week

A common words assessment has been completed and sent home in your child’s bag. Children should consolidate and work on the highlighted words that they found tricky.
(There are a couple of children who managed full marks – these children should focus on the tricky words/common words in their reading book)

Purple Team
This phoneme was particularly tricky so the group are going to work on this phoneme again next week. If you feel that your child is secure with these particular words, they could be challenged to think of some other ‘ck’ words.

‘ck’ phoneme – lick, stick, pocket, flick, black, clock
Common words – make, like, made

Yellow Team
‘b’ and ‘u’ – grab, belt, pump, rust, duck, upset, black
Common words – be, but, you

Your child has been provided with a spelling activities sheet. Each night, they should complete a spelling activity. This can be a combination of written and active tasks throughout the week, to ensure your child has a firm grasp of the weekly phoneme words and common words.

A spelling test and dictation will be done at the end of the week in class to ensure the children are secure before they progress

Maths
The children have been given a new mental maths booklet to encourage fast recall of addition number facts. This can be worked on in the upcoming weeks, one page per week. (As the booklet is copied back to back, the children can hand in their completed sheet every second Friday) The children should be on sheet 3 this week.

Additionally, we have been learning about money in class.

Circles
Children should be able to recognise and describe the different coins. They should be able to order the coins by value and suggest which coins to use to make totals up to 10p. We will also be looking at equivalence (10p or 5p and 5p or 5p, 2p, 2p and 1p)

Squares and Triangles
Children should be able to recognise and describe the different coins. They should be able to order the coins by value and suggest which coins to use to make set totals. We will also be look at equivalence (10p or 5p and 5p). This week we will begin to look at adding items to the value of 20p and beyond as well as calculating change from 20p.
