Easter/Spring Holidays

The whole team here at Kirkton Primary School would like to thank you for all the support you have given us, and each other over ,what has been a very different end to the term.  I know that each member of the team is missing seeing you and your children everyday.  Please share what you have been doing with us via Google Classroom or Twitter, it really brings a smile to our faces.

As it’s after 2.30pm, the Easter holidays have started and the whole team are going to be taking a well earned break.  We are all off next week but may see some of you in the Hub the following week if we are on the rota.

We would like to wish each and every one of our families a very Happy Easter, albeit a very different one from the one you had planned.  We would encourage you all to take some time off to recharge, if you can.  Enjoy spending time together, learning new skills and having fun!

Our home learning packs will last children another 2 weeks after the holidays but we will be in touch via Google Classrooms before that, even if it is just to say hi!

Wishing everyone a safe and peaceful break and we will see you all very soon.

Best Wishes,

Kirkton Primary School

Covid 19 – Update 9

outh Lanarkshire Council Coronavirus (COVID-19) advice
Free school meals

From Friday 3 April we have in place new arrangements to send PayPoint vouchers directly to parents/carers of children who are entitled to free school meals.
These will replace the ‘take and go’ lunches that have been available from our emergency childcare hubs and some other schools. These lunches will not be available for collection after 3 April.

Parents/carers of eligible children do not need to apply for this payment.
A £30 voucher will be sent to you on a fortnightly basis using the mobile phone numbers or email addresses we already hold for you. If we don’t have your number or email we will post the vouchers to you.

The first £30 payments will be made on Friday 3 April, covering weeks commencing 30 March and 6 April.

A second payment will be made on Thursday 9 April (as Friday 10 April is a public holiday), covering weeks beginning 13 and 20 April.

Advance payments will continue every fortnight thereafter from Friday 24 April.
Scottish Government guidelines suggest that payments should reflect what councils charge for school lunches. As the cost of a school lunch in South Lanarkshire is £1.70, the £30 fortnightly payment considerably exceeds that. The payment is also in line with the UK Government’s £15 a week vouchers system.

Payments will be made only to those entitled to means-tested free school meals. This includes children in Primaries 1 to 3, who will be assessed for free school meal entitlement. Again, this is in line with Scottish Government guidelines.

For more information on eligibility see the Free school meals page.

The payment vouchers can be redeemed for cash at any PayPoint outlet, of which there are more than 100 across South Lanarkshire. Parents/carers can then purchase food for children, bearing in mind current advice on limiting excursions and social distancing.
For details of PayPoint outlets see the PayPoint website.

Payments will be made automatically using information held by the council, so applications are not necessary. However, contact details can be updated and other enquiries can be sent by using the Free school meals enquiry form.

Covid 19 – Update 8

South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership

COVID-19 – Community Wellbeing Line

A new helpline is now available for individuals living in South Lanarkshire who are self-isolating/vulnerable and whose usual support network is no longer available.

The helpline will help people to access food and other essential supplies.  The Community Engagement Team within the council have been working  along with VASLAN to collate activity which is happening within communities, and to make contact with new groups and networks which are developing in response to the current situation.

Community volunteers are playing a key role in supporting the people around them.  This includes helping transport essential goods such as food to people who cannot leave their home, carrying out welfare checks where there was a concern expressed about the wellbeing of someone, and offering telephone befriending to those who are isolated.

The helpline number is 0303 123 1009 and the opening hours are as follows:-

Monday to Thursday 8.45 – 4.45
Friday 8.45 – 4.15
Saturday and Sunday 8.45 – 4.45

Please pass this information on to any people that you are working with and who are self-isolating/vulnerable and don’t have any other support networks available.  If you have any questions about the helpline please email communities@southalarkshire.gov.uk

We are seeking volunteers!
If you are interested and have some time to help our communities please email communities@southlanarkshire.gov.uk

A wee update!

Dear Parents/Carers

I just wanted to touch base with all of our families during this very difficult period that we are all adjusting to.
The team  have been working extensively to operate a distance learning programme so that we can provide home learning activities and some level of continuity and normality for our pupils.
We will be using Google Classroom as our online platform.   This is accessible through the national Glow Schools website. We find the platform works best when downloaded as a separate app or onto your desktop. It can even be accessed through PS4 and other games consoles.  Use your child’s username along with @glow.sch.uk to log in.
Due to the level of demand for the site, access has been difficult for some, this can cause the work folders to appear and then disappear.  We realise this can be frustrating, if this happens, log out, and log in later.
If you are having ongoing access difficulties, please email us at gw20slckirkton@glow.sch.uk  and we can discuss an alternative.
We are really enjoying seeing the children’s work being shared on the posts section of the Classroom site as well as Twitter.  If you need any other advice or support, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Remember our Home Learning packs, will last our children 4 weeks which is for the 2 weeks before Easter and the 2 weeks after.
I will keep you up to date with any changes or development. Thank you for your continued support, understanding and patience during this time.
Stay safe,
Kirkton Primary School.

COVID 19 Update 5

Dear Parents,

Following from South Lanarkshire Council’s to extend their contingency planning for Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th March 2020 to include all CATEGORY 1 key workers to include the children of all emergency service workers, ie NHS staff, police, fire and rescue, ambulance and the prison service.
We are aware that you may have received notification from your employer identifying you as a key worker however, following South Lanarkshire and Scottish Government guidance, we are only accepting children who are well and healthy and whose parents/carers are both due to work on Monday & Tuesday and are listed as Category 1 or are emergency service workers (ie NHS staff, police, fire and rescue, ambulance and the prison service) and who cannot secure personal, alternative childcare arrangements.
As Monday isn’t a normal school day please, speak to a member of staff when you arrive to sign children in and confirm arrangements for 3pm.

  • This is a 9am to 3pm service, children will enter and exit from the main entrance and we ask parents to be mindful of social distancing and remain at least 3 metres from the front door.
  • Children are not required to wear their school uniform.
  • Children should ensure they bring their home learning pack.
  • As this is not a normal school day pupils may be in different groups with different members of staff, not necessarily their class teacher.
  • Pupils coming to school for their school lunch, should arrive at the school office at 12.15pm (please note there will be no early entry) and be signed in.  Pupils and a parents will be able to eat their lunch in the school hall.  When finished pupils and their parent will sign out and leave by the front door, pupils will not be able to access other areas of the school including the playground.

We are now in a period of National emergency which is evolving daily and we would appreciate your support with social distancing at all times, please discuss this with your children.

Further updates will be posted on the App, Twitter and Website.

Everyone at Kirkton would like to thank you for your support and wish you all good health.  Please follow social distancing and self isolation rules and we look forward to opening our school to everyone very soon.

Best wishes,

Kirkton Primary School
