Information from our colleagues within NHS Scotland

Rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing is now available for people without any symptoms at our Asymptomatic Testing Centre at Carluke Lifestyles Centre from Wednesday 21 April 2021.  The community testing initiative aims to drive down COVID-19 rates and transmission by identifying positive cases more quickly, as people can spread the virus to others before symptoms appear.

You don’t need to book a test and can turn up at the Lifestyle Centre between 9:30am and 5:30pm.

With thanks

Information from NHS Lanarkshire

We have been asked to share the following information from colleagues within NHS Lanarkshire with parents and carers.

Calm Distress is a new online course from NHS Lanarkshire Psychological Services, designed for you to use in your own time and at your own pace. It is all about understanding emotions and improving wellbeing, during Covid-19 and beyond.

The pandemic means NHS staff can’t run classes or groups in the community like we used to – but we can provide high-quality psychological help online via our Lanarkshire Mind Matters website.

Over five friendly sessions, Calm Distress will help you open up to day-to-day stress, recognise your warning signs, and learn new ways to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings. Each Calm Distress video is about 20 minutes long, giving you lots of useful information in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. There are also booklets to go alongside the videos, which you can download and dip into if you wish: do it how you feel it works for you.

You can access Calm Distress through Lanarkshire Mind Matters online: click here to go directly to the Calm Distress page. Register online and we will send you a password to access the course. You can then keep coming back to it as often as you like.

Update from South Lanarkshire Council

All pupils in primary schools returned on 15 March 2021 and from this date a phased return of secondary schools until the Easter/Spring break. Taking into account the improving national position in relation to the suppression of the virus and with having consulted with our partners, and with all schools now open for pupils the need to provide specific support for key worker children is being scaled down.

Schools will close for the Easter/Spring break on Thursday 1 April at 2.30pm and reopen Monday 19th April 2021.  During this period there will be no ‘hub provision’ as schools are closed and this time is also used for preparing for more pupils to return in April.

Thank You!

As Remote Learning for our Primary 4 – 7’s comes to an end today, we would like to reach out to every single one of our families to say a huge well done! Well done for facilitating Remote Learning for your children at home whilst working yourselves, looking after young children or other family members and simply trying to navigate life through a Global Pandemic. You have been fantastic, as have our children. Whether you have managed to do every piece of work with your child, just a little each day, or even some days none,  we think you have all been amazing. The most important thing is that your child feels safe, loved and cared for. Catching up with Literacy and Numeracy will come. Our children’s health and wellbeing is the priority and will continue to be when they return to school. You have done it! You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

All the staff at Kirkton Primary have worked tirelessly to give your child quality learning experiences. They have become experts in using technology and have adapted their teaching methods for online learning. As well as our teachers and support staff working with their own class, they have been supporting children’s learning in the Emergency Key Worker Support Hub to allow our parents who work on the front line, to carry out their essential role in the efforts against Covid 19.

Throughout this period of Lockdown, we have received many messages of support and thanks for the Emergency Key Worker Support Hub and Google Classroom, which we truly appreciate. We would like to share some of them with you in this message of positivity:

  • “As a family it helped enormously because we had no childcare and I was working full time and unable to take time off to watch my youngest child and home school. From a well-being point of view it was a tremendous help.”
  • “I have been able to attend work as a key worker, as has my husband, during this lockdown. It has relieved the pressure and worries of my children missing school work whilst I am not present as well.”
  • “My children managed to compete most work during days spent in the hub. They felt supported and had fun and were always happy to go back the next day.”
  • “The suport my child has received throughout Lockdown has been tremendous. His class teacher was always there to answer any questions. Please pass on our heartfelt thanks and appreciation.”
  • “The staff at Kirkton Primary are working extremely hard to keep my child learning and happy during this time. We are very grateful.”
  • “It was great for my child to see their teacher on live Meets. It kept motivation up!”

This is our message of thanks to each and every one of you. The Kirkton team sprit has prevailed and we have met this challenge head on, together. We will be delighted to welcome the rest of our children back on Monday and finally have our family complete.

We wish you all the best over the next couple of weeks as the children transition back into school life. As always, we are here to listen if you need us.

With thanks,
The Kirkton Team
