Kirkton Primary is a newly built school, situated in the centre of Carluke. The school serves a catchment area comprising private and council housing.
The original building was replaced by a new building which was officially opened in May 2015. The school has a Muga Pitch and extensive school grounds to facilitate outdoor learning.
The school has 8 classrooms, a muti-purpose conference room, visiting services room, computer suite, a large dining hall, a gym hall and break out areas to enhance teaching and learning.
The school has a Parent Council called ‘Friends of Kirkton’. We welcome parent and community helpers in school and enjoy a very good level of support from parents and the community.
The school’s priorities for improvement are outlines in our Improvement Plan. High priority is placed on providing a Broad General Education for all pupils and developing Literacy & English and Maths & Numeracy across learning to raise attainment within Curriculum for Excellence.
The school has well established links with other local schools and organisations. Our pre-school pupils enjoy a comprehensive induction programme to familiarise them and their families with the school. Our P7 pupils also engage in a range of Primary/Secondary transition arrangements for local secondary schools.
The school provides a wide variety of activities and opportunities to develop the life and ethos of the school and promote wider achievement for all. We have a bronze in the Rights Respecting Schools Award. Each year the P7 pupils undertake a residential experience to Lockerbie Manor this session.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities including football, netball, keep fit, drama and choir.
