Cairns Nursery Class

Dear Parent/Carer, 

Due to COVID restrictions we will be unable to carry out face to face parents meeting this session, however, we want to update you on your child’s progress at nursery. We will be arranging Parent telephone calls for the week beginning Monday 24th May. This will be a 5-minute call from your child’s keyworker on an assigned day. Please see below the dates for each group- 

Orange Group – Monday 24th May 

Green Group – Monday 24th May 

Red Group – Tuesday 25th May 

Purple Group – Wednesday 26th May 

Yellow Group – Thursday 27th May 

Blue Group – Thursday 27th May 

 These calls will take place after the nursery session between 3-4pm.

Learning

The children are still exploring weather and have been recording the weather daily from their observations.

They continue to explore number and are becoming more confident with numbers 0-10, with some children exploring larger numbers.

Outdoor learning remains a priority and the children are spending a lot of time outdoors. They have been exploring our large grassed area and have been enjoying lots of physical play, developing gross motor skills with their peers. It is building resilience, confidence and helping the children to form positive relationships with friends.

Story of the week

Brown bear, brown bear, what can you see?

This is a great book of rhyme and it explores colours and different animals. The children have been enjoying stories about animals and they are really starting to use their personal experiences and knowledge to make connections and ask questions about the stories they are listening to.

Learning

The children have been having fun exploring number using a variety of resources. They have been transferring number skills to different tasks and enjoying the challenge. this will continue this week.

The children have shown a keen interest in weather and have been looking at ways to record it. This week we will be looking at weather symbols and how they are used to share the weather.

Story of the week

The children really enjoyed ‘Giraffe’s can’t Dance’ this week and want to explore it further.

They have been-

• looking at characters and recreating them using craft materials
• they have been exploring dance, rhythm and music
• they have been empathising with the characters and exploring feelings
• they have been retelling the story in their own words using important events.

We will continue with this story and ask the children to choose their favourite animals stories to read.

• science experiments to investigate different types of weather
• we are further developing our number knowledge and building on what we know- counting forwards/backwards, number recognition, number formation and quantity, numbers in our environment etc.
