Participatory Budget
2026 / 2027 – Participatory Budget
This is the seventh year of this initiative from the Scottish Government and all schools have to take part. Approximately £3,000 from the Pupil Equity Fund (PEF) budget has to be spent in this way.
What is Participatory Budget (PB)?
- PB is a way for the families of our school community to have a direct say in how local money is spent.
- PB gives our families a voice and for them to get involved and have a say on how part of our budget is spent.
- PB is more than just getting families to vote on options – it is an opportunity to explore issues and come up with suggestions themselves.
Why are we being asked to look at PB?
- PB supports Article 12 of the UNCRC “children and young people have the human right to have opinions and for these opinions to matter.”
- Education Scotland Paper (2018) “Learner Participation in Educational Settings considers how learners and their families can have a say in schools.”
Next Steps – the children have selected three areas for consideration of this spend.
- Sports Equipment
- A free trip for all pupils
- Playground Resources
