S1 Swan Trip

The new S1s have made a great start to Secondary and they had the perfect way to round off their first week with the opportunity to go out on the Swan.  Before setting sail, the pupils had to the opportunity to listen to John Goodlad and Josie Simpson speaking about the history of the vessel and the drift net fishing.  Once underway, conditions for sailing were quite calm but the pupils were able to get experience of raising and lowering the sails with some of them even taking a turn on the helm.  We would like to thank Sita Goudie and the Swan Trust for giving us the opportunity to enjoy the experience of being on a vessel with strong links to Whalsay.
