P4 – 6 took part in various activities last week to celebrate Maths Week Scotland. There were online events, maths tasks and we all were grateful to Denise (Carrie’s mum) for talking to the class about how she uses maths in her job. It was very interesting!
Electricity and Electrical Circuits
We have been learning about electricity. we have learned that electricity are electrons moving. We found out about power plants and batteries. We drew diagrams of different circuits using scientific symbols.
Outdoor learning – numeracy
We used our outdoor environment to create multiplication games as a team then share and play it with the rest of the class.
Earthquakes
As part of our Natural Disasters topic, we were learning about how earthquakes occur. We also learned about seismographs which record the strength of earthquakes. We created our very own seismographs, as well as seeing what happened what happened when our tectonic plates (tea biscuits) moved together and molten rock (whipped cream) would rise.

Hockey Festival
We had a fantastic day at the Active Schools run Hockey Festival. There wasn’t a focus on competition, so no scores were recorded. It was simply about getting fresh air, being active, socialising and demonstrating resilience!
Measuring
We have made good use of the good weather to do some outdoor learning. We measured perimeters and areas of different places outside. It was a bit challenging working with metre sticks but we all did a good job. We measured in metres and square metres. We have also been measuring in centimetres and square… Continue reading Measuring
STEM
The STEM coordinator visited us today with MTa kit and challenged the learners to create certain models, within a set timeframe. This really encourages children to use a range of science, technology, engineering and mathematical skills to develop the knowledge and understanding of skills for learning, life and work.
