World Climate Zones

P567 have been learning about climate zones around the world. For a challenge, they have been trying to figure out where in the world each zone is! Lots of great discussion and deduction going on!!

Ireland

Because it was St Patrick’s Day yesterday, we decided to do some Irish food this week. Ireland is one of the countries visited in ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’, we’ve just done it slightly out of sync with the other countries! Pupils tried some food they’ve not eaten before. We made Boxty, which are Irish potato pancakes, and 2 loaves of soda bread, one with fruit and one without. We’ve also made Barmbrack, a traditional Irish tea loaf. All of these have been eaten (and enjoyed) with some nice Kerrygold Irish butter!

China

Last week, week 5 of ‘Food Fridays’, we visited China! We decided not to make anything this week, but we did try lots of Chinese goodies. All pupils were given a set of chopsticks and they had to try and eat their food with them!

India

Week 4 of our Food Fridays saw us visiting India. We made some raita, mango lassi and coconut barfi, as well as trying curry, poppadums, bhajis, pakora, mango chutney…and much more!

Egypt

The 3rd location on our food journey was Egypt. This was a trickier one to find food for, but we made a tagine and we tried falafel, hummus, cous cous & raisins, pitta breads and a few other things!

Italy

Our next county on our ‘Food Fridays’ journey was Italy. We made our own pizzas, including our own dough. We also tried various Italian foods, such as: pecorino, parmesan, mozarella, pesto, and gnocci!

France

The first country on our ‘Food Fridays’ journey was France. We tried lots of French foods, such as: Emmental, Brie, pan au chocolat, brioche, Bonne Maman jam, madeleines, baguettes….and much more. We even made and tasted ratatouille.

Food Fridays

As part of our ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ topic, we are partaking in ‘Food Fridays’. This is an idea that the pupils had, to follow Phileas Fogg’s route and try some foods from all the countries he has visited. We will be doing some cooking and food prep in the process, to develop our food tech skills and knowledge. Photos to follow!
