Yesterday we went to the gym with the P1A’s for our Christmas party games.
We had a few changes to the equipment this week. The wide box was a section higher, the narrow beam came after the wider benches and at the frame, the ropes were out. When discussing the equipment set up, we spoke about changes of height, direction and width.
Here we are in action.
Last week was our first week using all the big gymnastics equipment. We loved it!
We spent the first two weeks of gymnastics on the mats doing stretches, jumps, balances and basic rolling skills.
Have a look at what we will be learning about during term 2:
In PE, we have been using the small games apparatus including, small balls, large balls, hoops and bats.
We have started our investigations around 2D and 3D shapes. The children are loving the short activities and getting used to moving on to the next group.
There was great excitement at the height and style of the towers they built using Jenga blocks and they loved building a wall for papier-mâché Humpty Dumpty which they made last week. They worked really hard to colour their monsters carefully, matching the shape with the colour.
The children spent a long time planning and adjusting their parkour course until it was just how they wanted it. They the tried it out and are a few attempts decided they needed to add some chalk directions and safety lines to guide them.
Some fantastic discussion over pasta shape, sharing food fairly and encouraging Catnap to try some was had.
