Learning Grid Term 4 Week 2 P1b

The learning grids are also saved in the files section in Teams. An email was sent out to parents on Friday on how to access Teams. Please get in touch if you are having any problems with that.

I will have a daily challenge/question that I would like pupils to answer in the General section of Teams so try and check this out each day.

I have also set up a Playground channel within Teams where pupils can make contact and chat with their P1B friends.

I hope you enjoy the activities on the grid and if there’s an activity from last week that you really enjoyed please feel free to swap them around. You do not need to complete all activities, do what works best for you. Please continue to email through Glow with your feedback and lovely photos of what the children have been doing.

This is our learning grid for week 1.

Learning Grid Term 4 Week 1 P1b

During this period of school closures we have a list of websites that you can access from home to help keep your child busy and continue to develop some of the skills they have been learning in class.

www.teachyourmonstertoread.com

www.topmarks.co.uk

www.twinkl.co.uk

www.scholastic.com

www.gonoodle.com

www.supersimple.com

www.edshed.com

www.mathshed.com

www.sumdog.com

www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/shows/alphablocks

www.oxfordowl.co.uk

www.mathsisfun.com

www.redtedart.com

www.krokotak.com

The children should continue to work through the activities in their homework folder and the packs they got home on the last day.  Perhaps they would like to keep a scrap book or diary to share with their class when we all return to normal.  This could be filled with drawings, photos, things they had found outside e.g. dried flowers etc. from their adventures.

ICT

This term we have been using the school ICT Suite. Our mouse skills are developing well as we play Sumdog and Teach your Monster to Read.

Login details for both websites have been sent home in homework bags so hope everyone is enjoying playing these games at home!

Term 3 Topic

Our topic this term has been “The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. We enjoyed reading the story and making a huge caterpillar display in the classroom. We have also been learning the days of the week and this story really helped us remember the order of the days. We made a lovely Caterpillar Days of the Week display with our P6B buddies.

Fun Friday

This term we have all enjoyed learning and playing games during Fun Friday. P3 and P2 pupils taught us how to play games such as Connect 4, Uno and Dobble. It was lots of fun!

Drumming

We had a great time learning to play African Drums with Joy! We played the drums, we danced and we sang songs!

Fisherman’s Tail

On Monday 9th March we went to see a musical performance entitled The Fisherman’s Tail at the Lerwick Baptist Church performance by 4Front Theatre Group. It was very entertaining and was based around the story of four fishermen and the life of Jesus.

Quilt Making

After we learnt the ‘qu’ sound we decided to make our own quilt. I am sure everyone will agree that it looks amazing. Great job P1B!

Buddying

We always enjoy the time we spend with our P6 buddies. On World Book Day we all shared our favourite stories and made bookmarks together.

Up Helly Aa

Term 3 started with lots of Up Helly Aa craft. We made galleys for our big picture in the open area and painted large Gruffalo guisers for the canteen as well as making our own helmets. We were very happy to get help from our P6 buddies to make the torches and we all enjoyed our mini Up Helly Aa procession and family afternoon when we made our own shields. On Up Helly Aa day we saw the Jarl Squad march into the town in the morning,  which was very exciting! The Jarl Squad also visited the school and we got to try on their helmets and see their very fancy shields.

Christmas Craft Activities

This term we have been very busy with our craft activities. We have enjoyed making handprint angel pictures, Christmas Tree cards, ‘Owl Babies’ calendars, Holly Wreaths and Star decorations.

Shape Walk with Our P6B Buddies

We went on a ‘Shape Walk’ around the school with our P6B Buddies. We had to find circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. We used a tick sheet to record how many shapes we found. We then had to count all the ticks. We all really enjoyed this activity and we found lots of shapes.

Family Bookbug Event

We all enjoyed seeing family and friends at our Bookbug Event.  The Unicorn craft activity was lots of fun, the Unicorns looked great!

Buddying

We met up with our P6B buddies to paint firework pictures and we had a great time in the Senior Wing!

ICT Suite

We have been working hard in the ICT suite this term developing our mouse skills as well as playing maths games to improve numeracy skills.

Welcome back to Term 2

We were all very excited to get back to school and see all our friends again after the holidays. We really enjoyed playing with some new toys during activity time.

What a busy term!

We are all settled in to P1 after a very busy first term. We have enjoyed taking part in lots of fine motor activities, as well as the Dough Disco, to help strengthen muscles needed for good pencil grip and pencil control.

We have spent time getting to know our buddies and have enjoyed activities with them as well as playing with them at playtimes.

This term we have also been reading lots of stories in class and have particularly enjoyed ‘Story of the Week’. Our first ‘Story of the Week’ was the ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. Each day we listened to the story and focused on the rhyming words as well as sequencing the story. We also listened to it on CD and watched the movie, which was excellent. We did lots of work linked to the story and our buddies helped us make a Gruffalo face!

Next we read ‘Giraffes can’t Dance’ by Giles Andreae and painted brilliant giraffe pictures. We even practiced our cha-cha-cha, like the chimps in the story!

Last week we read ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ by Julia Donaldson and completed lots of writing activities linked to this story. We loved listening to the ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ song and even read the story to each other during activity time.

Friday Yoga

As part of our Friday gym we take part in yoga using Cosmic Kids. Yoga is fun and relaxing!

Buddy Time!

We were all so excited to meet our P6b buddies and have enjoyed taking part in lots of activities with them.

Name Signs

It was quite tricky making our name signs using reinforcement rings but we think they look amazing!

Activity Time

We have lots of fun at Activity Time!

Welcome to P1b!

We all had a great time when we visited our new classroom in May. We really enjoyed meeting our new classmates.

Working together to improve outcomes for learners to be the best that they can be.
