We were very lucky to have a visit from Chloe to have a Bookbug session with us about pirates. We had a great time making up songs and listening to stories.
P1 have been playing simple games and using small apparatus. We finished the block with a lot of different equipment to choose from.
We had a great time at the beach looking for signs of pirates and their treasure.
The children have made their names using different colours and chosen which colours they want to explore mixing together. They have also made colourful paths of colour anc drawn themselves on the path- some children drew their whole family.
Discovering and uncovering the COLOURS of autumn.
Autumn Tree Discovery
The next art activity uses drawing, cutting, colouring and collage skills.
I will post some their beautiful explorations next week.
We were treated to a performance by the Shetland Youth Orchestra last week in the Sound Hall. The orchestra is made up of children from all over Shetland including both primary and secondary, and their musical talents are amazing!
We were introduced to all the different instrument families including brass, woodwind, strings and percussion. We listened to a mixture of music including classical, swing and even a theme tune or too. We particularly liked the Wallace and Grommit theme tune which they played as we were leaving the hall.
What a very enjoyable way to spend a Friday afternoon!
We hope you enjoy watching some of the new and exciting thing we have been doing as we start school. There have been many firsts and much fun. We have been playing outside and inside as well as starting to learn about numbers and letters.
We are always busy. 😁
We have started the year in PE with spatial awareness activities, learning to use the space safely while the class are moving freely around. We learnt what being in a space means and how to stay in a space while moving. We have also focused on movement. We used different stimulus like Mr Men, animals and Beans to respond to instructions and move in different manners. Here are some examples of the ways we have moved –
Mr Men – Mr Rush moved fast, Mr Noisy moved making a lot of noise, Mr Jelly wobbled like a jelly and Mr Muddle moved backwards.
Beans – Jumping Bean jumped, runner bean ran, Mr Bean moved in a silly manner and frozen bean froze like a statue.
Animals – Horses galloped, kangaroos jumped and frogs jumped from a crouch position.
As part of the block we had to navigate a circuit of equipment requiring balance, coordination, changes of height and direction and creativity. This seemed to be a big hit with some great ideas of how to get from one side to the other.
