Three cheers for Up Helly Aa 2023…..

: on mon 30th Ms Hutcheson did an Up Helly Aa bookbug session in the library, some parents managed to come and join us too

: Ms Hutcheson read a story called ‘the viking who liked icing’ then we sang our viking rhymes and practised the Up Helly Aa song.

: After we had our bookbug session we had a mini procession around the nursery

: We sang the up Helly Aa song and threw our torches in the galley

: We also had the Education Scotland’s mascot ‘Doug’ visiting for Up Helly Aa day, he met Harold the viking and bookbug

: Doug liked sitting in our galley boat

: He met our Viking cushion

: Doug enjoyed playing in the up helly Aa tough tray playing with the firey rice!

: Doug really liked our school Up Helly Aa flag he especially liked the raven

: We made our own hats, shields and torches

: we practiced our Viking rhymes we have been learning

: the junior jaryl squad came and they had a band playing the Up Helly Aa Song

: we saw their lovely suits and shields, their helmets and axes were really shiny

: We joined in singing the Up Helly Aa song

: My grandad and Uncle are in the senior Jaryl squad and they gave me a shield to keep

: Our Dad came to visit with the junior jaryl squad

: My Dad was playing in the senior jaryl squad’s band, he came with his band and played the up helly Aa song while we were eating our lunch

ELC Registration Week

Registration week opens on Friday 3rd February until Friday 10th February. Please see further guidance in the link below:

ELC Shetland Guidance 2023-24

Parents and carers of children who already have a placement in a setting do not need to register again and their existing attendance pattern will continue. However, parents and carers should be given the opportunity to alter
their existing pattern as many families wish to increase hours for their pre-school year. If parents or carers wish to alter their pattern they should use the following link and complete the form: Change of Pattern Form 2023-24 – Self (shetland.gov.uk)

Forms to change attendance patterns should be completed by Friday 10 February2023. This will ensure that changes for children in their pre-school year are prioritised.

If you wish to defer your child starting P1 then please speak to Mrs Evans and see further information in the link below. Deferred entries should be submitted by 15th March 2023.

Christmas 2022

: We were delighted to see so many mums, Dads and grandparents at our Christmas concert, and the Children did so well singing all the songs!

: Christmas party day, we had a lovely snack, and played lots of dancing games

: We had a very special visitor on our party day, he took time out his busy schedule to visit us, and he kindly left a sack of presents for all the children

: After all the snow days, Mrs Sutherland helped us to make an ice cream shop, and we used the snow to make the ice creams

: We enjoyed scooping up the snow

: we carefully added the scoops of snow to the top of the cones

: the scoop made round balls of snow

: we also made sundae ice creams

: and double scoops!

: we had a special treat for snack in each of our key groups we decorated biscuits with icing , marshmallows and raisins

: all our biscuits were different

: and they tasted really yummy

: All the ladies, including some who are not in this photo would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we will see you all in 2023!

We have been very busy in term 2 doing lots of exciting things including Halloween, firework pictures, baking, theatre production, book bug sessions and many more! please take a look

: During the week of Halloween we explored different materials in our spooky play

: beasties frozen in ice cubes, we experimented with water in different forms, frozen, melting and pouring, and we made magic potions

: mixing shaving foam in the witches cauldron

: exploring pumpkins and seeds in the water tray, making potions

: making skeleton pictures

: We had black sparkly playdough and Halloween cutters

: Halloween snack

: We played a game where we had to catch the party ring biscuit only using our mouths

: We loved playing the dancing games at the party

: We used paint and kitchen roll tubes to make some firework pictures

: Four go Wild in wellies by Theatre Production

: We went to the gym hall to see the show, we all listened really well and laughed alot too

: helping to weigh the ingredients

: chopping up fruit for snack

: birthdays

: mark making outdoors

: mark making indoors

: Making bird cakes

: hanging the feeders up on the trees outside the nursery garden

: we had the light box out

: we enjoyed counting and sorting

: and building towers

: glitter on the lightbox was such good fun, mark making

: We enjoyed fixing the blocks together with our shaving foam cement

: We like to build the blocks in the cabin and make roads

: We also used sand to make cement , it was fun exploring the different materials

: one of the children decided to use chairs to make a bus, then several other children joined in

: the ladies set up a post office for us in the role play area

: we weighed, stamped, did mark making in cards and letters and posted them

: The ladies helped us to make pretend snow

: The ladies mad us a polar express provocation in the tough spot tray using the fake snow, and railways tracks and trains

: We took a walk to the wildlife area in the school, we had our snack, and Mrs Evans read a story, it started to rain but we had our suits on so were nice and dry

: Miss Hutcheson took us to the library and we had a book bug session

: she read ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’

: We joined in with the words and actions

: we used our listening ears

: some primary 6 pupils are coming into nursery twice a week, they are our ‘buddies’

: They helped us to draw pictures to put in our christmas concert leaflet

: We like having the buddies in nursery

: They also helped us to make a sign for the wall for our concert day

: We mad snowmen

: using loose parts

: everyone’s snowman was different

: we are learning a snowman rhyme

: its called ‘A chubby little snowman’

: We got real snow in the nursery garen!

: we liked making snow angels

: it was so much fun

: it was cold, but we were warm in our suits

: we even made a tiny snowman

: We had a visit from the lollipop man, Tam, he told us how he helps all the children cross the busy road, and why he wears bright colours , and what it says on his lollipop stick

Children in Need

We had lots of fun last week celebrating Children in Need. We had a special snack which we made and decorated ourselves while wearing our Pudsey hats which we designed ourselves. We had a disco in Nursery as well. Then just before lunch we had a special visitor come in for a visit. Very exciting day in Nursery.

African Drumming

We have been going in small groups to the Music Hut to do African drumming with Joy over the past few weeks. We loved drumming and dancing to the different rhythms.

Welcome back!

Hello,

Welcome to our new children who have started with us over the past couple of weeks. You are settling in so well which is great to see. Welcome back to our returning children, it is lovely to see how you have all grown over the summer and exciting to see what adventures we will have this session before you go to school.

I am delighted to be able to share our Care Inspectorate report with you. The inspectors arrived on the second last day of term and we are happy with the report that they have shared. As well has being here as a link it is available on the Care Inspectorate website for anyone to access.
