Art Lesson

In Art primary 6 have been learning to form shapes to create a sculpture inspired by artist Joan Miro.  After a lot of research and designing pupils decided on their favourite idea and created the structure using junk materials.

Once the structures were complete, pupils were introduced to Modroc and covered their models in the plaster bandages.  The Modroc was great fun and the art room got very messy!

Once dry they painted them with lots of lovely colours and patterns.

In Art p6 have been learning about the French Artist Claude Monet and have used chalks to recreate his impressionist style.

We started by mixing and blending the chalk to achieve different colours and tones.  We then layered on top of that with more chalk, trying to add different marks to create the impression of detail.

The class have worked very hard and has resulted in lots of beautiful pictures, well done p6!!

We will now be moving on to do a similar thing, but this time using paint.

Art Lesson

In Art p6 have been learning about the process of design.

Pupils were given with the tasks of designing a character pot, which had to have an open mouth; the rest was up to them!

During the first lesson, pupils were introduced to the idea of mind maps to generate different ideas and think through the various options for their pot.  The next job was to choose their best idea, draw it out, in detail and think about the colours.

The following week we spent sculpting the pots.  Pupils learnt how shape clay and join it using the scratching and smudging technique.

The final step was to paint our pots, we spent 2 weeks doing this to ensure the colours were bright and the pots were neatly finished.

The results were fantastic, excellent use of the visual elements p6, well done!

In Art p5 have been learning how to form models using newspaper.

We started by drawing and researching creatures that live in and around Lerwick harbour.

After choosing our favourite one we learned how to manipulate newspaper to create a 3d model of it. We used cellulose paste and tissue paper to cover them and add details.

They all worked extremely hard and have done a fantastic job, well done p5! 😍

Art Lesson

In Art p5 have been using Styrofoam to create a snowman block print.

First we came up with an image of a snowman then transferred it onto the Styrofoam, pressing into it with a pencil to create an indent.  We then had a block which could be used to produce many prints and make Christmas cards.

The class really enjoyed this project, learning about the process of rolling, inking, and printing.

Here are the first prints they took from their block….😍
