Being able to regulate attention, behaviour and emotions is important for children and young people because it helps them manage socially, supports their learning and achievement. In the long term good self-regulation skills has been shown to support life-long positive outcomes including mental and physical health.
Self-regulation involves children’s developing ability to regulate their emotions, thoughts and behaviours to act in positive ways towards a goal. Children need support to develop these skills from those who look after and support them.
