We have been learning about services and goods in Scalloway.   We learnt that businesses  sell things to make a profit.  This gave us ideas to make our own business.

We made a model of Scalloway showing the different shops, services and food providers.

We decided to make and sell Reindeer food at the Christmas concert.   There were lots of things to think about.  We had to design the packaging, choose the best materials within our budget.  We also had to write a rhyme.  We worked together to share ideas and make changes.

We have been working co-operatively to create a group Power point and then present our work to the class using big clear voices and lots of eye contact.

We each chose a pastime of the Romans to research and create a few slides on.  We had to use our own words and add images to our slides.

We practised as a group so we knew the order we would be speaking in.

We worked cooperatively to read and sort instructions to make a Model of a Roman Catapult.  Then we made it using lollypop sticks, elastic bands and lots of patience.  It was very fiddly.

We had fun testing them.  Some of us discovered we had to make little changes to make the bowl spring more so the “boulder” went further.

We have been learning the history of Roman Numerals and what each numeral represents.

We did some problem solving activities to practise using Roman Numerals.

We have been learning about the Romans.

We made models of Roman Sandals.  We researched, designed, made and evaluated our models.

We had to work well as a team and listen to each others ideas.  We also had to problem solve if something didn’t work.

We have been revising 2D and 3D shapes.  We also learnt about Quadrilaterals and the properties of these shapes.

We made models using little 3D shapes.  We had to describe the model using the correct shape names.

We made Angle Eaters to help us find right angles around the school.  We discovered right angles are in lots of shapes and objects especially squares and rectangles.

We have also been developing our mental math strategies for addition and subtraction sums.

We have been playing dice games to help build our fluency for quick recall.

Volume and Capacity:  Making potions

Generation Science visit for P4 and P5.

Jamie and Teegan from “Generation Science” visited us to teach us about Electricity.

It was lots of fun and learnt lots about Electricity.

We got to be scientists.  We had to test magnets and copper wires to see how much electricity we could make.  We measured it using an Ammeter.

Then we charged up the Hexbugs using the best combination of magnets and copper wires.  Then we raced the Hexbugs.
