We began the term with a block of athletics. We took part in a variety of activities across three key areas: running, jumping and throwing. This gave us plenty of opportunities to learn, practise and develop our skills across the different events.
We generally worked hard at all the different tasks, building our skills nicely for sports day.
Representatives from the Primary 7 STEM club went to the Celebration of STEM Event at the Shetland Museum. They had to create table display to showcase all of their STEM learning. This included sustainable island models, microbits, renewable energy experiments and a working crane.
They did a fantastic job representing their school and also managed to pick up the runner up prize for their STEM showcase! Well done STEM club!
We had a busy term in PE doing Dance, Handball and Badminton. P7 also had a few extra lessons learning Shetland dances for the P7 Hop with Bell’s Brae.
Here we are doing Handball.
Term 4 Overview
We are finishing the year off with three activities for four weeks each.
P7A have started this term by learning about the differences between singing in unison and singing in a round.
Singing in unison is an easier skill to master than singing in a round as everyone is singing the same thing at the same time. In round singing, we sing the same melody, but two or more people/groups start the song at a different time which means they also end at a different time.
Singing in a round produces overlapping harmonies and gives the music layers, enhancing the texture of the sound – elements of music which P7a have already learned about but are now putting into context.
Below are a couple of informative slides and also the audio file of the class singing in 4 groups which is an incredibly difficult thing to do! Not only do they need to sing accurately, in terms of pitch and melody, but they’ve also got to really focus on their listening skills as well as their sense of pulse. Well done P7A, you are, as the song says ‘Dynamite’.
In art P7 have been looking at the artist Jaqueline Hurely. We have tried to recreate her style using paint, charcoal, chalk and charcoal pencils. Using these materials we have focused on creating texture for the background before drawing out a silhouette image.
The final effects are beautiful, very thought provoking.
