The police visit

The police came in to tell us about drink driving and why we shouldn’t do it. First they came in then explained what they were doing. Then we were put into two groups.

One of the groups were trying the beer goggles and trying to walk in a straight line. The other group was blowing into a tube that tells you if you are over the drink driving limit.

Then they talked to us about drink driving and we could ask questions about being a policeman.

First Week Back!

It is our first week back and we have a new teacher for 2 weeks covering for Mrs Anderson. In 2 weeks time we are getting a new music teacher.

Our topic for the next few weeks is going to be famous scientists and this afternoon we were learning about Alexander Flemming. It was really exiting seeing who we’re sitting next to for this term and I think everyone got nice things for Christmas.

Slime party

Yesterday we had a slime party .as a reward because every term we get a treat for working hard. At the start of the year we got to pick activities to do and Mrs Anderson picked the ones that were most popular.

We thought it was really fun and it turned out good, we should have had more glue and shaving foam.

Mrs Anderson learned how to make slime and that we were responsible. we were also very patient waiting for it was our turn.

it was really fun and if we had the chance we would like to do it again.

dancing with Maria Leask

Every Tuesday 1st thing this term Maria Leask came in on the ferry and taught us dancing. we had the first block so if the ferry was going to vidilin we would have to miss some of our dancing time.

This was our last week of dancing we did the Polly glide, strip the willow and the bridal march. I like the strip the willow, there was a family dance on the 1st December and some people from our class went. I didn’t because it was my sisters birthday.

We did dancing for 4 weeks and I enjoyed it.

The New Primary Sport Captains

At the start of this term the P7s had to make up a talk to present themselves as potential sports captains. For each team you need a boy and girl team captain.

Firstly, we had to plan a rough draft of our talks in the class. Then we wrote our talks up and took it home so our family could see and edit anything. Then we wrote up a new and final draft and presented it to the P7’s so we could practise on each other.  Then we went class by class and presented our talks to each classroom. Each person is in a team and they have to vote for someone in there team out of the P7’s to be there team captain.

Once we had got all of the votes counted then Miss Irvine told us who was the team captains. The captains for Maalie is Jenny and Ian, for Tirrick is Maya and Jack and the captains for Shalder is Cara and Connor.

Next the captains have to plan for the competitions to come. Our next one is Football and netball.

New JRSO

The start of this term we voted for our new Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO). They have started a competition and in the future they are going to do lots of activities through the year.

Our new JRSO’s are Andy, Robbie, Owen and Brenna. They have already entered our school in a competition all over Britain. The competition is about who can draw the brightest and most colourful banner with a bike or motorcycle on it. They pick 3 banners from P4-7 and another 3 from P1-3. Then they send that pictures down south and enter them in the competition. If one of the pictures win we shall get the winners banner above our bike stand!

The JRSO’s are very excited and cant wait for big activities to come.

Drumming with Joy Duncan

Joy comes up to Whalsay every Tuesday to teach P6/7 African drumming.

Everyone loves drumming especially Mackie Reid.

Joy always wears colourful  clothes mostly pinks, oranges and reds.

She makes us play different tunes, we are playing Soko right now it has 3 groups Doon Doon Ba, San Ban and Kencany.

and lets us go bananas. (which  means we play the drums as hard as we can until she throws the banana in the air and catches it then we all stop)
