Topic

This term as part of our IDL topic we have been learning about Shetland and its landscape. We have been working on our mapping skills, including finding different places on a map, looking at symbols and grid references. We have also discussed the different ways in which the land is used in Shetland and we have looked at our local community as part of this.

This week the pupils all had a chance to do a talk on their favourite place in Shetland. Everyone did a brilliant job – well done!

Below are some photos from the talks.

Outdoor Art

Earlier in the term we got outside to create some outdoor art. Before going outside we looked at some examples and came up with some ideas about what the different pieces of art could be. We then used lots of different natural materials to make our own art. Some pupils decided to do this in small groups and some did this individually.

The next day, we wrote all about our art including what we had used to make it and describing what it was.

Garden of Determination

One of our school values is determination. We have been thinking about determination a lot this term and have each made a flower and some petals. We will write a sentence on a petal each time we use our determination and will add it to our flower. We are sure lots of flowers will grow in our garden of determination

Shetland Youth Orchestra Performance

We were treated to a performance by the Shetland Youth Orchestra last week in the Sound Hall. The orchestra is made up of children from all over Shetland including both primary and secondary, and their musical talents are amazing!

We were introduced to all the different instrument families including brass, woodwind, strings and percussion. We listened to a mixture of music including classical, swing and even a theme tune or too. We particularly liked the Wallace and Grommit theme tune which they played as we were leaving the hall.

What a very enjoyable way to spend a Friday afternoon!

Teams Tip

I mentioned this to a few parents last night but thought I would put it on here for everyone. I know from experience how awkward Teams can be when you have more than one child logged in. I have found out that if you have them logged on in different settings rather than both on the same then it seems to work better. So for example, one person might be on the app and one person might be on through chrome. Or one person through chrome and one person through edge. I hope that makes sense and helps out anyone who is having the issues of logging in more than one child on a device. If anyone is still having problems logging on or getting onto assignments then please get in touch and we can see if we can help.
