Last week we had a brilliant time on our visit to the weather observatory. We had the chance to watch them get the weather balloon ready before it was released. We also had the chance to ask lots of questions and learned a lot. This week we wrote reports about our visit there.
Some comments from pupils:
Below are some photos from the trip.

This term we have been working on adding conjunctions and openers to our writing. Last week we successfully achieved both targets and made it into the 100 Club. Well done P3B!

This term we have been learning about weather and climate. We have learned about the different instruments used to record the weather. As part of this we made sure to get outside as much as possible. We recorded the weather in a weather diary over the course of a week. This included placing a rain gauge outside and checking a thermometer for the temperature.

This was our last week of gymnastics. The class have loved this block, especially the equipment. Everyone has worked so hard. We have seen lots and lots of learning taking place including balance and control, co-ordination, gross motor skills, core stability, strength, flexibility, stamina and confidence, as well as less obvious aspects like respect and tolerance, decision making and prioritising. A great block with so much effort put in. .
Here we are exploring this weeks equipment.

Week 3 of the equipment saw more excitement in the form of a trampette. This is a miniature trampoline that you use like a springboard. The pupil steps on and jumps off showing a 1 foot-2 feet-2 feet foot pattern. Other changes included a double bar, a high bench, a high ladder, obstacles on the beam, the springboard beside our long box and the wide box was another block higher.
Here we are in action.

This term we have been continuing to develop our knowledge and understanding of pulse, rhythm and pitch through rhymes, action games and singing games. We’ve been exploring different ways to keep a steady beat and in the video, you can see that we are using buckets as untuned percussion. This is our performance of ‘Something Went Bump’ by Elementary Music Fun.

Week 2 of the equipment saw a different set up for the pupils to explore. The main differences were we had the ropes out, included a change of direction, the wide box was slightly higher and the bench up to the long box was flat and lower.
Here is just a small sample of our work.

In art P3 have been exploring lots of different materials when creating different weather images.
There were 9 weather stations set up in the room and P3 have been “artistic explorers”. Their job was to move between stations choosing, trying and combining lots of different materials to see what effects they could create.
They have all really enjoyed this and created a lovely collection of pictures which show their growing understanding of the materials.
Well done primary 3 🙂

We are doing gymnastics in PE.
On the mats we focused on Core Stability and Strength. We discussed what this was and why it is an important area of the body, relating it especially to gymnastics. We also performed balances and moves that specifically involved the core.
On the equipment we are developing Confidence and Self-Esteem.
