The Universe

Primary 1/2 have chosen space as their topic and one of their key questions was “How was space made?”

Today we learned about the universe and how we are all part of it. We spoke about how the universe started off very small and hot and then how the big bang created all the matter that became everything we can see and beyond.

We organised picture cards into size and played in the hall pretending to be the ‘Big Bang’!

We made splatter pictures using toothbrushes which someone suggested putting altogether to make a giant universe wall. It was very messy, but it was a good inspiration for talk.

A Visit from the School Nurse

Today we had a visit from our school nurse to talk about ways to keep healthy and in particular ways to keep a child with allergies safe. We practised washing our hands and used the light box to check how good we were.  We talked about symptoms of an allergy and what to do if there was an emergency.

Primary 1 and 2 decided they would be safety superheroes and help to look after each other.

A Successful First Week

Primary 1 and 2 have had a busy week getting to know each other and setting up our classroom, learning new routines and becoming familiar with all the people and places within our school.

We have had lots of free flow play activities with more focussed learning activities for the Primary 2 children.

Primary 2 have been super buddies for our new Primary 1s and they have worked together well. I am really proud of how well everyone has settled in and I am excited to see where this year will lead us.
