What a fantastic afternoon we had at the Fyanna Concert!

Pupils from across the primary school, along with some very talented musicians from the secondary department, performed in front of our pupils, staff and families. It was wonderful to see so many children sharing their musical talents and performing with such confidence.

P4/5 have spent many weeks practising Millarochy Bay by Nathan Evans, and all of their hard work and dedication certainly paid off. They sang beautifully and should be incredibly proud of themselves.

There was a special reason why Millarochy Bay was chosen as the final song of the concert. The song celebrates the beauty of our island home and the strong sense of community that makes Shetland such a special place to live. It was a fitting way to bring the concert to a close and left everyone with a real sense of pride.

I was so proud of every member of P4/5 for the effort, enthusiasm and resilience they showed throughout rehearsals and during the performance itself. Well done, everyone!

Over the past few weeks, our Thrive outdoor sessions have provided fantastic opportunities for pupils to learn, explore and develop important life skills in a nurturing environment.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking part in a range of activities that have encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, creativity and resilience. From exploring nature and working collaboratively to taking on new challenges, everyone has shown enthusiasm and a willingness to give things a go.

These sessions have also supported pupils’ emotional wellbeing, helping them to build confidence, strengthen friendships and develop positive relationships with both peers and staff.

It has been wonderful to see the children thrive outdoors, embracing new experiences and making the most of our outdoor learning opportunities. I am incredibly proud of the positivity, teamwork and determination they have demonstrated throughout each session.

The whole primary and ELC took part in Da Voar Redd Up on Friday. P4/5 went down the Broonies Taing road and collected 6 bags FULL of bruck.  It is sad how much bruck is left lying around but it is such an important lesson to do with children to teach them about looking after the environment.

Here is a picture of pupils from P4-7 at the end of their Redd Up.  Also a pupil who did a special route for me and enjoyed being in charge.

Week 2 of term 4 done already!  Lets hope this beautiful weather continues as it does make a difference!

P4/5 enjoyed a workshop on Climate Control.

During it they learned about climate change through videos, PowerPoint and experiments.  Finishing it with working collaboratively to answer a question.

Interesting feedback as some pupils found it sad thinking about the future, how water will rise and by the end of the century the tomobolo at St Ninians would be covered!

Was a worthwhile lesson and left the class with food for thought.

For their homework P4/5 had to research the following:

🐾 Homework Task: Explore the Animal Kingdom!

Objective: Learn about different animals, their habitats, diets, and unique adaptations—and present what you discover in a creative way.

Choose 3 animals from different classes (e.g., Mammal, Reptile, Bird).

I gave them 3 weeks to do this and I am always blown away with how well they do!  Each opts for a different way to present it and wow did it range from fantastic models made out of cardboard, Lego animals (created by not following a design), superb informative posters, newspapers, PowerPoints and tik tok style videos!  Just love them all and grateful that they took time to do it.  Well done guys – its been quite a day!

After a lot of hard word I am very proud of the class and how well the assembly went.  A superb showcase of our learning so far.  Thank you at home for your help also.

Hello again
