Next years p1s visiting our p4s

Having fun naming the colours in French.

Singing, playing games and counting in French with the p4’s.

Quelle heure est-il Monsieur Le Loup?

(Whats the time Mr Wolf?)

STEM challenge and all about rockets!

We love a bit of art and craft to learn where to find materials and make wonderful model rockets.

Climate experts

The pupils worked in 4 groups each focusing on a different climate Zone. They used computers to research information, to print facts and collect photographs. They wrote out facts and drew pictures. They were very creative in their display of the information to create 4 fantastic giant posters to present to the class. Lots of great social skills involved in this learning.

Measuring the Weather

We made rain guages for collecting rainfall.

We used thermometers to check the temperature outside.

We made wind vanes to see which way the wind was blowing.

We also made pinwheel windmills and used an anemometer to see how much wind there was.

Some days were very cold and we investigated snow and ice and did experiments about melting ice and freezing water.

We collected our data every day and completed lots of work in class relating to our findings.

STEM challenge afternoon

This afternoon the children worked in pairs to make a  launcher.

They worked out different ways to make their characters go further or higher. There were lots of  target games, challenges and fair testing going on.

Mandy’s quilt by Dena

mandy brought in her beautiful quilt to show me and the class because I made my own one. We had been chatting in school with Mo about making quilts.

We saw symmetry, patterns, shapes, fractions, angles and lots of measuring involved in making a quilt.

Something old for Show and Tell

Last week the children had the task of bringing in something old to share with the class and tell us about. There were lots of great artefacts brought in and we have set up our own little Museum area in the classroom.

We also had two grannies and a grandad in to visit us and tell us what life was like for them when they were little and talk a little about what Shetland was like many years ago.

Theo’s granny came in and showed the children her fair isle knitting.

Freddie and Elins granny came in and shared lots of memories of when she was a peerie lass.

We also had a lovely visit from Fin’s grandad who delighted the children by spoiling them ( as grandparents are expected to do) with a sweetie.
