Ancient Egypt

Our last topic was on Ancient Egypt and we wanted to make canopic jars.

The Ancient Egyptians put organs in the jars after death. Each canopic jar guarded a different organ. The jar with the human head protected the liver, the jar with the head of a falcon protected the intestines, the jar with the head of a baboon protected the lungs and the jar with the head of a jackal protected the stomach. The four canopic jars were put into a special chest which went into the tomb with the mummy.

After gathering together enough jars for everyone we started making them this week.  First we put paper mache on our jars and left them to dry, then we made the heads from clay and let these dry too. We then painted them all. We think we have made a fantastic job of them and we are all very proud of ourselves!

Cabins

We recreated cabins and engineering rooms from the Titanic. We researched what the different classes would look like and used junk modelling materials to copy the pictures we found.

Biographies

This week we created Biographies for passengers and crew that travelled on the Titanic. These were fictional characters and we researched passengers names, what hobbies and jobs they might have had. We also looked at the kind of clothes they  might have worn. We also thought about who they might be travelling with and what items they might have taken on the ship with them.

JRSO

We had a visit from the Junior Road Safety Ofiicers. They came and played a road safety game with us and found out what we knew. They were very impressed with our knowledge! We all designed new reflective clothes that we would be happy to wear and there is going to be a prize for the best outfit.DSCN1063 DSCN1067 DSCN1069 DSCN1071 DSCN1073 DSCN1076 DSCN1087 DSCN1090

Titanic

We recreated the Titanic on the wall by being in groups and working together as a team.

Working in our groups, deciding the best plan of action!

Each group had a different part of the Titanic to work on. One group had the hull, another one did the decks and port holes, another worked on the funnels and another group turned the classroom into the sea!

At the moment we are working on recreating the rooms of the Titanic in shoe boxes. These are 3D replicas of the real rooms.

We are really enjoying making these.

The Gruffalo

This morning P1,2,3 and 4 went to Mareel to see The Gruffalo.

After a short break we got the book read to us in Shetland Dialect.

We were lucky enough to have it read to us by Laureen Johnson.

A few of us learnt some new Shetland Dialect words!

We had a lovely trip to Mareel and we hope to go again!juliadonaldson_big
