The World of Work

🌟 Primary 5 Explore the World of Work

Primary 5 have had a fantastic time exploring the world of work over the past few weeks! We have been busy learning about our own skills, interests and the many different opportunities that the world of work can offer.

We started our learning by exploring different careers as a class and sharing our individual interests with each other. We then completed the β€œWhat Animal Am I?” quiz on the World of Work website. The children answered questions about themselves, their interests and the things they enjoy doing. From their answers, they were given a range of skills and potential careers that might suit them, along with an animal to represent their results! πŸ―πŸ¦‰πŸ¬

The following week, we put these ideas into practice by imagining that we were applying for one of the jobs we had discovered. The children worked on positive self-talk and learned how to talk about their own strengths and skills when writing an application. It was lovely to see them recognising strengths and becoming more confident in talking about themselves.

For our final week of World of Work activities, the children became employers! They created their own imaginary business, thinking carefully about what their business would offer and which skills would be important for the people they might employ. We had a broad range of ideas from shops, tech stores, sports training facilities, toy manufacturers and publishing companies. This encouraged lots of creativity and problem-solving. πŸ’‘

Some of the children then took their ideas a step further by presenting their businesses to the whole class. They practised using positive language, a confident tone and engaging presentation skills to persuade their classmates to be interested in their ideas. It was wonderful to see so many children speaking with confidence and enthusiasm!

The class enjoyed this learning so much that we have even had a few budding entrepreneurs setting up their own little stalls in the classroom, sharing their crafts and creations with their friends! 🎨✨

It has been fantastic to see the children developing their confidence, communication skills and creativity while beginning to think about their own strengths and the exciting possibilities that the future might hold.

🌿 Outdoor Learning

This term, we have been enjoying weekly outdoor learning sessions with our Play Practitioner, Aimee. We have been busy exploring, creating and learning together in all sorts of different ways!

The children have had plenty of opportunities for self-directed learning, from developing their risk-management skills through tree climbing to navigating friendships and relationships through imaginative role-play games. We have also taken part in adult-led activities, learning more about the wildlife and plants around us.

One particular favourite has been getting creative with chalk and water! The children love mixing them together to create colourful paint for decorating our outdoor spaces – or, of course, making magical potions that can do anything their imaginations can dream up! πŸ§ͺ

The children have also been helping to shape our future outdoor learning sessions by sharing the activities they would love to do more of. Some of their ideas include:

β€œCan we do den building?”
β€œI love scavenger hunts!”
β€œCan we do a scavenger hunt where you have to find bugs?” πŸ›

We can’t wait to see where their ideas take us next!
