Autumn Walk

As part of our topic on Autumn, we went for a walk around the school grounds to look for signs of Autumn. We found lots of leaves, berries, fungi and twigs.

It encouraged us to learn about the changes that happen in the seasons and we had fun finding things and crunching in the leaves!

Name the Gritter

On Monday the new gritter visited our school. We all got the chance to go and look at it and learn about all the different parts. Today we have all coloured in our picture and thought of our names for the ‘Name the Gritter’ competition.

Fantastic!

A class member made a dinosaur out of 2D shapes. He was so proud of it, he asked for it to be shared on our blog. I hope you agree he has tried really hard and done a brilliant job, using pen to add in extra details. Well done!

Surgery Fun!

We have set up a Doctor’s Surgery in our role play area. The children brainstormed ideas of settings they would like to play in and the surgery was the most popular. The children are having lots of fun, helping each other and talking about their experiences.

Splat!

During numeracy today we used fly swatters and a number line to answer questions like; “What comes after..?”, “What comes before…?” and “What number is in between…?”

Everyone thought splatting the numbers was great fun!

We also cut out pictures showing 4 or 5 in a variety of ways and sorted them out.

Working Together

We have had our first try at co-operative group work today in P1. First the children got into groups and shared their opinion on their favourite school dinner. Everyone got the chance to speak and give their own opinion.

Then in our groups took part in a graffiti task where everyone had to draw something they enjoyed about school. We had to fill up our page by co-operating and sharing space and resources. Everyone worked really well together. Well done Primary 1!

Numeracy

In Primary 1 we are beginning got adopt SEAL Numeracy as part of our daily learning. We have been learning about number from Mondays to Thursdays and on Friday concentrating on other areas of maths (currently 2D shape).  We have been ordering numbers both forwards and backwards to 10 orally and using number lines and resources like Numicon and 10 frames.
