Busy Times in Primary 1

It has been a busy few weeks for us in Primary 1. We have been learning about symmetry and used positional language to move Bee Bot around maps. We even made our own treasure maps for Bee Bot to roam around!

The new Primary 1 children came for lunch and it was a lovely chance to parents and children to explore our classroom together.

The JRSO came to visit and play games with the Primary 1’s to help them learn about road safety.

This week the Primary 6/7 class shared stories they had written for the Primary 1 class. The children really enjoyed the stories and loved having the chance to meet up with the older children.

“I enjoyed how they read and showed wis the pictures!” – Ellyn

“They were very good!” – Joe

“I want to learn how to make good stories like them!” – Ryan

“I liked the names of the characters.” – Finleigh

“I really enjoyed it!” – Leo

Outdoor Learning Day

On Thursday 23rd May, we took part in the outdoor classroom day. Primary 1 teamed up with Primary 3/4 and we went to the beach. The weather may have been wet, but it didn’t dampen our spirits and children and adults embraced the opportunity to learn together in a new environment.

The children looked at rock pools, used beach art to create symmetry, took part in a treasure hunt to see what was around them, made Shetland Rocks and also tried to dig to Australia!

The thing that really took the Primary 1 interest was the rock pools as our class topic is Under the Sea. Children had already brainstormed key questions they wanted to learn about and two of these was how crabs move and eat. This was a great opportunity to learn on site.

We then completed our daily mile at he Houll Loch and had lots of fun splashing in all the puddles!

In the afternoon Primary 1 enjoyed a visit to the nursery garden. We then used twigs and chalks to make some collaborative art in the playground.

Thanks to our parent helpers who contributed to all the learning taking place, Primary 1 had a brilliant day!

Easter Fun

Primary 1 have been taking part in a few different Easter themed activities this week.

We were invited into Primary 2 for their Easter Enterprise, which was really good fun with lots of activities and games to play. Primary 2 served us a delicious snack of biscuits, nests and juice.

We decorated boiled eggs and rolled them this morning. It was lots of fun running up and down the hill. Some of the eggs were almost indestructible!

Our trip to Fernlea

Everyone had a lovely time when Primary 1 were invited to visit Fernlea to take part in some crafts. Primary 1 made some very attractive Easter Egg bunting and were keen to share their work and interact with the residents and day care visitors. A very enjoyable afternoon took place and the children were all very keen to visit again in the future.

Maths fun!

This week we are continuing to learn about measurement with a focus on capacity. Primary 2 have kindly lent us their water tray and we have been using it to learn vocabulary like; full, nearly full, about half, nearly empty and empty.

Although we are working on measurement, we still have fun practising our number skills.
